As an up and coming musician, the last thing you ever expect is for the famous artist whose song you’re covering to appear out of nowhere and help you sing it. That’s exactly what happened when this young girl sings an Ed Sheeran song for a crowd at the mall, then he unexpectedly shows up to sing with her.
Ed Sheeran surprises this teenage girl at the mall right when she was in the middle of singing one of his hit songs
13-year-old, Sydney Bourbeau, is a singer and huge Ed Sheeran fan, who got the surprise of her life while covering one of his songs for seated onlookers. Back in 2015, she was doing a fundraiser for her local humane society at the mall where Ed Sheeran just happened to be shopping.
At the beginning of the video taken by Sheeran’s cousin, Murray Cummings, you can see a smiling Ed perk up when he hears his own song echoing throughout the mall. The teenager is from Edmonton, Canada, where Sheeran just happened to be that day.
“Should I just roll up?” Says Sheeran, his cousin adds: “Yeah just roll up, roll up.”
The crowd cheers as Ed Sheeran walks onto the stage, Sydney can’t believe it and stops singing
When Sydney realizes what’s going on, she puts her hand on her heart and stops singing, so Sheeran grabs the mic and begins singing his song “Thinking Out Loud.”
Once Sydney is able to regain her composure, she joins Sheeran in singing and they start a duet that sounds absolutely beautiful. They sound great together!
At first, you can hear the shakiness in Sydney’s voice, which is understandable given the circumstances
After getting over her nerves, Sydney’s gorgeous voice permeates throughout the mall with Sheeran holding the mic up to her face to sing the highly popular chorus.
The whole surreal moments is caught on camera by Murray, and the audience is loving the powerful chance encounter screaming for the two singers. Sydney re-lived the amazing event to the Edmonton Journal, telling them:
“I was like, should I stop? I didn’t want to stop, but I wanted to talk to him. This is, like, the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”
When they’re done singing, Sheeran gives Sydney a huge hug before running off of the stage
People are still in shock that Ed Sheeran just showed up and inserted himself into the charity performance, they watch on with hilarious surprised looks on their faces. After it was all said and done, a kind-hearted Sheeran had his manager reach out to give Sydney tickets to his upcoming show.
The internet went wild for the touching spontaneous connection, millions have viewed the video taken by Murray on social media.
