It’s hard not to be a fan of James Corden’s always entertaining television show Carpool Karaoke, where the British actor, comedian, and television host takes a celebrity on a car ride with him. The show always ensures a good fifteen minutes of pure entertainment, but the latest episode with none other than musical superstar Ed Sheeran was an episode that is perhaps the funniest yet.
Ed Sheeran – known for his hit songs such as ‘Shape of You’ and ‘Thinking Out Loud’ was invited to ride with James Corden. Corden works at CBS where he presents ‘The Late Late Show’, and he usually doesn’t drive alone. When Ed Sheeran steps into the car with his trusty guitar, the two quickly jam a couple of songs and start chatting, and that’s when hilarity follows.
In Carpool Karaoke, it’s not only James’ goal to sing along with some of the artist’s own songs, but the British host always tries to get a little peek in their personal lives and hunt for funny stories or anecdotes.
Did you know for example, that Ed doesn’t have a cellphone and that he once hit Justin Bieber in the face?
Although Ed said it was an accident, James couldn’t really believe what he was saying, especially when he hears about the details. Ed struck him in the face with a golf club when both of them were rather drunk.
The combination of the extremely talented singer with the always energetic host is absolutely one of a kind. The two performed their own duets of Ed’s hit singles including “Shape of You,” “What Makes You Beautiful,” and “The Hill.” A lot of fans even comically asked if a CD of their duets would be released.
James also slightly reworked the lyrics of Castle on a Hill, adjusting it to the traffic situation:
“I’m on my way, stuck in some traffic on these bad freeways.”
Perhaps the highlight of the episode is the moment where Ed and James engage in a so-called Malteser challenge. The two had to fit as much of the delicious little chocolate balls in their mouth. One thing is for sure: there’s a clear winner and the number of Maltesers that can fit into a mouth can sure be surprising.
Overall, it is Ed Sheeran’s extremely humble, down-to-earth and friendly personality that shines throughout the episode.
This episode of Carpool Karaoke is already one of the most popular ones ever released with millions of views.
Of course, Ed Sheeran isn’t the only celebrity who has jammed in Carpool Karaoke. Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, Adèle, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stevie Wonder, Justin Bieber, One Direction and even Apple CEO Tim Cook have been in an episode and they all have one thing in common: they’re absolutely worth watching.
