Most of us can’t imagine going through the most important events in our life without our parents. Weddings, graduation, the births of babies… when you visualize these moments about your future in your head your parents are always there by your side.
Being that her mother was only 55-years-old, 18-year-old Samantha never thought her mother might not be there for her graduation day.
And Patty Parrotte likely never dreamed that should wouldn’t be able to make it to the ceremony. However, when Samantha’s graduation day came around, breast cancer threatened to take that joy away from Samantha and her mother.
Parrotte had been battling breast cancer for 10 months and was in her final stages of life.
The mother of four had been in an unresponsive psychosis for several days.
She was on her death bed and there was no way she would be able to attend Samantha’s high school graduation ceremony.
So, the kind-hearted teachers and administrators from her daughter’s school decided that would hold a special ceremony right in Parrotte’s hospital room so that she could watch her daughter graduate from her hospital bed.
Miraculously, Parrotte came to when the ceremony began saying “sorry for the way I look” to the guests in her room.
“You look beautiful,” the school’s staff told her. “Just like your daughter.”
The graduation march music soon queued up and her daughter walked into the hospital her room dressed in her white gown and mortar.
Parrotte softly smiled at the sight. Her daughter then leaned in over her and kissed her mother. Parrotte told her daughter that she loved her.
“Doesn’t she look beautiful,” her husband said as he held her hand.
You could hear people weeping and sniffling in the background over the beauty and tragedy of the moment.
Samantha’s teachers then presented her with her diploma leaving everyone to clap, even Parrotte whose eyes were mostly closed. One of her teachers fought through his tears as he announced that Samantha had won seven awards, including one for academic excellence.
“We’re very proud of her,” he said.
There wasn’t a single dry eye in that room. Unfortunately, Parrotte died shortly after the ceremony but she did get to see her daughter graduate before leaving this earth.
