Couples love to tell the story of how they met.
Some of these stories are romantic, some are tragic, and some and just plain strange. Jennifer Lind and her husband, Nicholas, have a very funny story to share with the world. They actually first met after a car wreck.
In December 2013, Jennifer was driving from Parsippany to River Vale, New Jersey, when she hit some black ice and lost control of her car.
She crashed into a guardrail. She described the accident, saying:
“I was driving home from an office holiday potluck dinner, from Parsippany, New Jersey, to River Vale, New Jersey, a familiar stretch of road I had been driving for two years now.
“As I listened to ‘Dark Horse’ by Katy Perry, my steering wheel felt funny and started to shake. The road was shiny, and in the time it took me to register what the temperature gauge was showing — 31 degrees — I realized that wasn’t water on the road. Panic set in.
“Suddenly, I was straddling the two highway lanes, surrounded by two Jersey barriers, no shoulder in sight. I had no control. A rush of terror and fear overcame me as I helplessly slid across the road. I started screaming. My passenger door hit the Jersey barrier to the right.
“Like a bumper car, I started spinning. And then, I hit a barrier head on and was now perpendicular to the oncoming traffic. I tried turning my wheel. No luck. It wouldn’t budge. My axle had split.”
She was terrified, but her ordeal wasn’t over just yet.
Another driver saw the accident and tried to stop, as well. He pulled his emergency brake, hoping that it would help him stop easier, but he couldn’t stop in time. He crashed into Jennifer’s car.
He was OK but worried about the car he had hit. He jumped out and ran to make sure she was OK. Jennifer described their first meeting, saying:
“I looked out my passenger side and there were headlights coming at me. Before I knew it, someone opened my door. Nicholas had been in the car behind me. He was the first one to hit me.”
He offered her his coat and invited her to sit in his car to say warm while they waited for the police to arrive on the scene.
Neither Jennifer nor Nicholas were hurt in the accident. Police who responded to the scene said that they were both lucky to be alive.
The drivers exchanged numbers and parted ways. Jennifer appreciated his kindness, but she didn’t expect to see him again. Nicholas had other plans. He felt a close bond with Jennifer during the time they spent together waiting for the police.
He talked about his feelings, saying:
“I remember telling a friend, ‘I’m gonna take her out and get to know her.’ I kept calling Jennifer, and she hung up the first time.”
Jennifer claims that because she was nervous, she thought that he was calling about the accident.
She was afraid that he planned to sue her and was hesitant to talk to him. She finally agreed to go out on a date with him, and she started to feel like they were meant to be together.
They got married in October 2017 and honeymooned in Greece. They are looking forward to spending the rest of their lives together.
They admit that they met under some strange circumstances but believe that it was no accident.
This couple was meant to be together. It may have taken an accident to get them to meet, but as far as they are concerned, it’s all just fate.
