Dove Promotes Ad So Blatantly Racist It Has People Wondering If It's Really 2017

Oh, Dove. You really messed up. Big time.

The popular and well-known soap company is in hot water after a very controversial ad campaign somehow made it out of their marketing department. It’s a move that Dove is immediately regretting — badly.

The ad shows a black woman removing her shirt to reveal her ‘true self’ — which is a white woman, apparently.

Weird, right? Yeah, that’s what everyone else thought too. Not only did it seem like a bizarre approach to selling soap, but it was hard for many people to deny that it was obviously racist. Come on, Dove. How did this even happen?!

Of course, Dove quickly pulled all of the ads but it was far too late — it had already hit the internet. Even though they apologized for the ad, adding that they ‘missed’ the mark — the internet was never going to let them live it down.

People all over Twitter and other social media platforms shot down Dove’s apology and compared their recent campaign to the severely racist ads from Pears’ Soap in the 1800’s.

Back in the 1800’s, a soap company called Pears’ had ads which depicted a woman scrubbing a black child ‘clean’ — as in, white. Yeah, awful, right? And here we are in 2017, and a mega-giant company still comes up with ideas that are grossly similar.

“Dear Dove, I assure you us ‘women of color’ have actual skin with color, not a tan that you can remove. Thanks,” one user said about the ad.

Keep reading for some of the reactions from Twitter and other social media outlets. But first — let’s take a look at this controversy-causing advertisement.

So, of course, no one could stay quiet about it. It is Twitter after all.

Remember those racist ads from the 1800’s we mentioned earlier? This is what outraged people are comparing Dove’s campaign to.

What makes things even worse for dove? Apparently, this wasn’t their first time ‘missing the mark.’

This, of course, became even more of a living hell for Dove.

Since the controvery, people are now talking about taking measures to boycott the brand. What do you think? Did they do irrevocable damage? Or was the apology enough?
