This video is nuts.
Just a quiet street- nothing to see here, right? Wrong. Note the purple double-decker bus, and, if you can make him out, Simon Smith, the man behind the black sign pole (towards the right of the shot) who is just a few steps shy from crossing the street.
The bus driver loses control, or perhaps acts on a homicidal urge. Simon Smith crosses the street, only to hear something large and purple roaring behind him.
The back of his head shatters the windshield before the bus throws his body forward. Had he been knocked under the bus, it’s unlikely he would have survived.
By the time he hits the ground, the bus is already swerving back into the road, so he narrowly avoids being run over twice in under two seconds. Not saying he’s the luckiest guy in the world; he did just get hit by a bus.
And a pole falls on him.
…and then he gets up…
…and walks into a bar. No sign of blood; not even a limp.
Daniel Fraifeld co-owns the bar.
“I think he [Simon Smith] pretty much got up, brushed himself down and then an ambulance came and took him to be checked,” said Fraifeld.
Seeing is believing; watch this video for yourself to see this invincible man in action!
Just to put this man’s amazing survival story in context, a note about pedestrian casualties:
An American pedestrian is killed every 111 minutes and injured every seven minutes. In 2015, 5,376 pedestrians and 818 bicyclists were killed in crashes with motor vehicles. Pedestrian fatalities in the U.S. increased by 11% in 2016. Some have linked this unprecedented climb to increased cell phone use.
In the U.K., 2016 statistics haven’t come out yet, but their total pedestrian injuries and fatalities are generally lowering. Still, 1,730 people were killed and 22,144 people were seriously injured in crashes with motor vehicles in 2015.
Cars are the lions and tigers of our modern age; even if they’re a natural part of the fabric of our society, you can never let your guard down when they’re around. It’s not just that you should look both ways when you cross the street. You have to keep in mind that often times the people behind the wheel are intoxicated, or drunk, or out of control, and they may roll right up onto the sidewalk. So no matter where you are- keep an eye on the traffic!
