With new Netflix movie Dumplin’ making waves across the Internet, let’s all take a moment to recognize the woman responsible for the amazing soundtrack behind the film — none other than Dolly Parton.
In anticipation of the movie’s December 7th premiere, Dolly Parton even decided to release one of her songs from the soundtrack early, a beautiful acoustic version of her 1973 hit “Jolene”.
The video of this new stripped-down version can be found at the bottom of the page and it is something you just have to watch. While Parton does her thing, singing her heart out, she is accompanied by a full string section in the background. The whole video is filmed in black and white, giving the performance an almost haunting feel.
Parton had this to say on Twitter about the track:
“Jolene’s been on the prowl a long time, but she just got a makeover and I couldn’t be more excited to share the new string version with y’all,” Parton Tweeted.
The fans really love the string version as well:
I would usually say, if it ain’t broke , don’t fix it, but this was haunting, I could feel your soul in this one…………thanks Dolly……….again.

The fans are certainly right about her voice. At 72 years-old, Parton is showing no signs of slowing down and she sounds just as good as ever.
While her participation in the movie is her latest project, we’re sure she still keep impressing all of us for many years to come. The beloved singer-songwriter has been making music for over 60 years now, ever since her debut album, Hello, I’m Dolly, was released back in 1967.
While Parton was originally only slated to write the Dumplin’ theme song, she ultimately ended up contributing a total of six tracks!
“When they first contacted me, they just wanted to license some of my old music for the movie, and I said, ‘Absolutely yes!'” Parton told Elle.
“Then I got another call asking if I would write a theme song, and I said yes. Then they called back and said, ‘Would you be willing to write that theme song with Linda Perry and have her produce it?’ And I said yes . . . As soon as we wrote the theme song, we just went one to another, writing songs. We didn’t even know if some of these would go in the movie or not.”
If you love Dolly Parton music as much as we do, Dumplin’ is a movie that is definitely worth seeing.
The plot of the comedy-drama follows the story of a Willowdean, a “self-proclaimed fat girl” who decides to enter a beauty pageant in Texas to regain her confidence. The twist? The pageant is run by her skinny, condescending mother.
No surprise here, but in the movie, Willowdean is also a huge fan of Dolly Parton.
