Imagine being at a wedding where the couple who is getting married isn’t the star of the show — but a dog is.
This was very much the case for this one pup in particular, who goes by the name of Bernie. He was adopted when he was 2 years old and has been with his current parents for over six years now. Over the course of these years, they discovered that Bernie is either fast asleep or the complete opposite — wildly awake and ready to play.
His parents recently got married, and instead of being a regular ‘ol dog going along with the event — smiling and looking pretty — Bernie got pretty crazy. To sum it up, he was the star of the show!
Bernie was kept inside for the actual ceremony since his parents, Rebecca Simpson and Charlie Hart knew that he could be playful and slightly unpredictable at the wrong times. “He has a tendency to sit on my feet/dress/etc,” Simpson told The Dodo.
Taking place at Brown Mountain Beach Resort, the North Carolina location was pretty perfect. Flowers were brought by Lindsey Horne at The Edgemont Garden, making for not only the most beautiful event, but the most beautiful wedding photos. They were taken down by the water after the ceremony.
Photographer Jillian Knight also nailed every shot. Bernie was also invited to the photoshoot of course, and his dazzling personality surely added some serious sparkle to each picture.
There is one thing though… Bernie couldn’t simply stand next to Simpson and Hart. He had to be the star of the show, obviously! So he had a bit of his own fun by jumping in the water, rolling over in front of his parents for belly rubs, and acting silly under neath the dinner table. He’s also grinning the whole time — the captured moments are absolutely precious!
“He actually bolted straight towards us when he saw us and someone had to scoop him up to avoid him covering my gown in sand and water,” Simpson continued. “We asked him to sit, but in typical bulldog fashion he was only focused on what he wanted to do.”
The photographer Jill was so great, she saw Bernie acting silly and instead of trying to tone it down, she played it up. She acted quickly and made sure to capture every moment, and everyone of his moments. She even asked Simpson and Hart to go along with it. The result? Hilarious — yet sweet — photos that will last a lifetime.
“She saw the opportunity and vision for these pictures and told us just to keep laughing and posing while he was in the background doing his own thing,” Simpson said. “And [the photos] turned out better than we could have dreamed!”
Simpson, Hart and their photographer weren’t the only ones laughing at the pup’s craziness either. “We didn’t realize it at the time but all 120 guests were on the deck watching, and when he got in the water everyone burst out laughing.”
It is so adorable that Bernie was able to be included in such a special day, and now Simpson and Hart will have extra special photos that result in way more laughs than regular wedding photos! So sweet!
