Did you ever have one of those optical illusion books when you were a little kid?
Whether it was strange symmetric patterns or a Whereโs Waldo book, optical illusions are a great pastime. Though we have less time for games like that as we get older, there are occasionally pictures that sweep the internet that bring back the craze for these visual puzzles. First, there was the infamous white and gold vs. blue and black dress.
The newest optical illusion is a much simpler picture but arguably much harder to figure out!
The story comes out of Perth, Australia and originated on Facebook from an Australian woman named Christina Suvo.
The image itself is nothing special: itโs a regular picture of a regular kitchen. Still, inside the kitchen there is a dog hiding in plain sight. The challenge is to identify exactly where the dog is hiding. Although it sounds like it should be easy, take a look at the picture for yourself. The challenge is actually much harder than it initially appears!

As with many optical illusions, the best way to approach it is by breaking it down into more manageable parts. One way to do this is to imagine the photograph is split into four separate quadrants and to focus your attention on only one quadrant at a time. Though you have to look very, very closely, the dog is there in plain sight. Do you give up? The answer is that the dog is lying right on top of the carpet! And no, thatโs not dust on your screenโthatโs actually his eyes, belly and ears shining through the black of the carpet!
