For as long as humans and dogs have coexisted together, we’ve grown to develop and cherish our deep and loving bonds with our furry friends. So much so we often refer to them as “man’s best friend” and even some of us referring to our dogs as our children or siblings. However, as much as we humans love our animal friends sometimes animals can find themselves stranded in unfortunate situations and need rescuing.
One day an animal rescue called Animal Aid Unlimited, located in India, got a call that a dog was lying near a road in critical shape as he had been hit by a car.
When one of Animal Aid’s rescuers got to the dog he soon learned that the pup couldn’t bear to hold any weight on his legs. Explaining the story of the rescue on an Instagram post writing,
“He no longer could walk. This gentle boy was hit by a car and his spine was damaged. He couldn’t bear weight, his hind feet flexed backwards and we thought he might be paralyzed for life.”
Neighbors that had found the poor pup and made the call for help had dressed Buster to keep him warm, as well as, left some food while he waited for rescue. When one of the rescuers from the organization finally got to him he scooped Buster up into his arms and brought him back to the sanctuary to see what they could do to help this sweet boy.
Once at the sanctuary, he was immediately greeted with so much tender love and care that even though the pup was very stiff and in a lot of pain he didn’t struggle or put up a fight with the caregivers who were trying to help him.
But when Buster was brought in his spine was critically injured and little sensation remained in his legs so much so that the caregivers thought he may be paralyzed for life. But neither the caregivers or Buster was going to give up. So to begin recovery Buster had to eat. With lots of encouragement, they got Buster to eat and then moved into weeks of physiotherapy to maintain his muscles.
However, even after 3 weeks of therapy Buster’s legs were still collapsing within seconds. But neither Buster nor his caregivers were willing to give up and little by little they began to see small steps towards progress.
However, even though small progress began the caregivers were unsure if he would ever be able to fully walk again. Even stating in the recovery video,
“This older boy was so sweet and mellow we thought he might not have the fight to heal. Oh, but we were so wrong!”
6 weeks after being rescued, through gentle therapy and lots of love Buster was not only able to walk on his own but finally able to go to his forever home! Where he will be eating good and running around happily until the end of his days. Another story that serves as a wonderful reminder just how big of an impact that love and kindness can have on others. Just as Animal Aid Unlimited put it at the end of their video,
“Beautiful things happen when you try.”
