Could you imagine spending almost your whole life with your best friend, only to have them disappear for days on end?

Well for this 13-year-old golden retriever named Buddy, this is a true story. She spent the entirety of her life with her best friend Hannah Foraker — up until she turned 21 and was then enlisted in the army. Soon, she went off to Oklahoma for basic training and Buddy was left to wonder where her longtime BFF went.

It was extremely hard for Foraker too of course, who was not only leaving Buddy behind, but her horse named Derby.

Here’s where the magic happens, though. After 3 months, Foraker returned home for Christmas break and, as you could have probably guessed, Buddy was absolutely beside herself. The moment she sees her BFF enter in her uniform, she immediately puts her head in her lap and begins to cry.

Foraker got Buddy when she was just a little puppy, but now with old age, she has developed arthritis and is mostly deaf. That did not stop her from feeling all of the emotions and giving Foraker the most heartwarming welcome though!

Having pets as someone in the military can be a very emotionally hard thing since it requires long periods of time apart. There are plenty of military/dog reunion clips on the Internet…But there’s just something about this reunion in particular that just feels extra special.

This also proves that everything we know about dogs is true: They provide heaps of unconditional love! Even after an owner has to leave for months at a time, they can almost be guaranteed a warm welcoming from their lovely pups — because dogs don’t really get mad. If anything, they are just happy that their friend is back so that they can provide all of the love and affection in the world!

This also proves that dogs do really remember everything. Sure, they may not remember short term things — like how they went number two all over the rug five minutes ago, or how you had to take a toy away from them ten minutes ago — but once you spend good, quality time with you, you can disappear for three months and feel assured that they will still remember who you are when you come back.

In the absolutely touching video — which has garnered over 6 million views — Buddy cries as her tail wags and she licks Foraker’s face with love. “She’s so happy!” Foraker exclaims as she gives her all of the pets and belly rubs. At one point, Foraker even puts her hand out and Buddy puts her paw on top of it. They are holding hands!

Soon, Buddy playfully collapses on the floor (because she clearly can’t even handle all of the excitement!) and sticks her head in Foraker’s lap. Buddy kicks her back leg repeatedly, showing how insanely happy she is now that she is reunited with her best friend after so much time has passed.
