When you’re a child, one of the most important things that you will treasure is the love and support that you will receive from your parents, but what if your father has Down syndrome?
Sader Issa, who is now studying dentistry in Syria, proudly shares their family’s story. He wants to inspire people and at the same time, he wants to show the world how proud he is to be raised by his dad Jad who has Down syndrome.
Sader’s dad
Sader Issa is a man who is proud of his family and his roots. He shares that his childhood was full of love and tenderness, and he wouldn’t have it any other way. Sader’s dad, Jad has Down syndrome but despite his condition, he was a man who did his very best to provide for his family.
He also made sure that Sader grew up in a loving family, an environment ideal for a child. Of course, many would already start asking how it’s like to have a father with Down syndrome.
Many would think that it’s tough and it’s not the usual family that you’d imagine but Sader simply says that it’s not that different.
Their family relationship can be described as normal and they have lived a simple and humble life. Like any family, they have dealt with many setbacks but they were able to get back on tract.
A father with Down syndrome
“I’m proud of my father. Throughout my life he has been the greatest support for me when I needed it,” says Sader to Bored Panda.
Jad, Sader’s father has been working in a mill near their home. Sader also often helps him and even accompanies him on his way to work. Jad is even a pillar in their community and despite all the challenges that he has been facing due to having Down syndrome; he has never let them get in his way.
Whenever Jad has a chance to talk to new people, he would often say “my son is a doctor.”
Simple words but you know that this father is really proud of his son!
“It’s possible to see when his eyes are filled with joy and satisfaction, as if to express: yes, I have Down syndrome, but I raised this man and did everything in my power to make him become a doctor and help others,” Sader Issa explained in his interview.
Inspiring others
When asked, Sader explained that he wanted to show the world that people with Down syndrome can live happy and normal lives.
“We wish all people were able to accept that being different is not something to be ashamed of. “
“People with Down syndrome are different but they have feelings, aspirations, a mind of their own, and they are capable of living a normal life when there is social acceptance and a society that is supportive,” Sader explained to Bored Panda.
Sader’s father is an inspiration to all of us and as he posted, his father has been a husband for 23 years, and a father for 21 years – and still, up until today, he’s still that loving, understanding, and the sweetest person that Sader knows.
