Divorce is tough but increasingly common, with 40-50% of marriages ending. While it’s rarely an ideal situation, a breakup can give a person the perfect opportunity to start over and make positive changes in their lives.

That’s precisely what Vicki from Dallas, Texas was looking to do when she decided to go with her friends to the salon of Christopher Hopkins, also known as “The Makeover Guy.” Hopkins works out of Minneapolis salon and his makeover services start at $200.

Vicki was at work when she got a text from her sister-in-law who was making plans to go to go to the salon with a friend and invited her along. It’s something Vicki had been planning to do for a long time anyway.

While her interview starts off chipper, Vicki quickly descends into tears once she brings up her divorce.

According to FaithTap, Vicki had been married for 44 years and hadn’t been single since the age of 18. The thought of starting a new life at that point would be overwhelming to anyone!

But Vicki knew that a new look would do wonders for her self-esteem:

“I want to learn how to make the best me. Play up my strengths, play down my weaknesses and make me look better. Make me feel good about me.”

The Makeover Guy gives her some reassurance that while she’s already beautiful and wonderful, he can help her enhance her best feature and even offers to break out the mimosas and bloody marys. And then they let the good times roll!

Vicki’s post-makeover look turned out to be a smashing success and while she still looks like her cheerful self, the transformation was drastic.

Hopkins gave her a haircut with copious layers, an entirely new color (a daring red!), lightened her brows, and really went to work on the makeup.

Some contouring and a neutral lipstick really highlighted Vicki’s stunning eyes, which got some new lashes to make them pop.

Vicki seemed both thrilled and emboldened by the transformation and ready to get right back out into the world.

“Whole new chapter – new look; new beginning. My turn.”

It’s no surprise that Vicki is ready to take on the world. According to The British Fashion Council’s resident psychologist Elaine Slater, “our appearance and how we construct it impacts our personal, social and professional lives.”

Of course, not everyone needs to radically transform their appearance in order to recover from a breakup. Seeking support from friends, hashing out your feelings with a professional, spending time helping others, and getting in shape can all help improve self-confidence.

But if a new look is what you’re after, anyone can make an appointment with Hopkins next time you’re in Minneapolis.
