That’s what we call disco.

Ah…the 1970s. That was a time of hip-hugger jeans, Barbie dolls, Hot Wheels, Atari, and of course, disco. Clubs everywhere played this genre of music, drawing crowds of people inside to move and groove. Unless you were a teenager or older at that time, there’s no way to truly appreciate just how crazy and yet wonderful this era was.

Fortunately, some people are bringing portions of the 1970s back to life, particularly in the form of dance. Although disco was already going strong in the first half of this decade, it went wild after the release of “Saturday Night Fever.” That movie starred John Travolta as a hot guy in a white suit who had all the disco moves down to a fine art.

Turning back the hands of time

So, what does a group of people who lived in the 1970s do as older adults? That’s easy. They get together for an incredible night of disco. But this group did in in the form of a line dance. Caught on video, you see people dressed from that decade moving to the beat of the music.

Dressed for the part

Okay, if you’re going to do a disco line dance, you better come dressed right. In a video that’s now been viewed six million times, yes 6 MILLION, you first see a woman decked out in a sequined dress and a hairstyle reminiscent of that time. But coming up on her right is a man who kills it in white pants and a red silk shirt.

Groovin’ to the music

Body suits, afros, white go-go boots, ponchos, it’s all there. The music? Well of course, it’s Night Fever. Although there were many wonderful disco songs at that time like Le Freak, Stayin’ Alive, Hot Stuff, Dancing Queen, and Don’t Stop til You Get Enough, it was the song from Saturday Night Fever that most people from that era remember the most.

Line dancing has never been so fun

Sure, you can line dance to just about any genre of music. As a matter of fact, one video recently surfaced of cowboys doing this style to a hip-hop song. So, why not disco? The thing about this genre is that the moves aren’t hard to learn. They’re kind of simplistic yet exciting and sensual.

The fun begins

As soon as the crowd hears the words of the song, they go into full Travolta mode. “Listen to the ground, there is movement all around, there is something goin’ down, and I can feel it.” In the movie, Travolta performed a very specific dance…so watching a group of line dancers reenact it is beyond incredible.

Come as you are

While there were several men dancing in white suits similar to the one worn by Travolta in Saturday Night Live, a lot of people wore clothing styles from today. It didn’t matter. The focus was on doing a dance that brought back a ton of cool memories. In the 1970s, dancing was all the rage.

More clubs should have disco nights

From watching this video, you can’t help feel nostalgic. Even if you weren’t from that era, there’s a unique bounce to the music that’s undeniable. Just because people from the 1970s are now older doesn’t mean they’re interested in learning ballroom dance.

Not that there’s anything wrong with ballroom, but for most people, disco is so much more fun. You get to swing your arms, shake your hips, and put in a fancy little kick now and then. If you want to travel back in time or learn what disco was all about, you should definitely watch the video below.
