The final scene of Dirty Dancing makes a lot of us swoon. But add in an ice rink? Suddenly, it goes to a whole new level that takes your breath.
Get ready to be mesmerized by the performance below, put on by professional skaters, Ondrej Hotarek and Stefania Berton.
If you’re a fan of the 80s flick Dirty Dancing, there are probably a lot of aspects that made it one of your favs. Whether you could relate to Baby who came from a strict family – or you dreamed of dancing with Johnny all night long – yep, your eyes were glued.
Over the years there have been many performers that have remade the classic “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” scene. From professionals to amateur brides and grooms, our hearts still pitter-patter every time we see one.
It’s not the easiest dance routine either. Remember how long it took Baby to not bust out laughing over Johnny’s underarm touch? And forget about the “lift move,” which was a triumph to learn on its own.
However, that doesn’t mean that others haven’t “mastered” the iconic scene, and sometimes with their own unique style.
When Italian skaters Ondrej and Stefania entered the rink at the Kings on Ice event – it was destined to be magic.
Ondrej was dressed in black with Stefania in a version of Baby’s pink ballerina dress. When “Time of My Life” began to play – chills could be felt around the room.
Patrick Swayze (I mean, Ondrej) invites his partner to join him using the “come here” finger gesture. He then slowly caresses her arm – with all of us knowing what’s about to come…the most epic routine ever!
In a flash, and on skates, the two become Johnny and Baby on ice.
Ondrej twirls Stefania performing the classic dance moves. But then, they take off skating around the rink.
The crowd cheers and claps along with the song in the background. If you weren’t aware, “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” actually gathered awards after the film was released. It proudly took home an Academy Award, Grammy, and even a Golden Globe.
At one point, Ondrej even tosses Stefania into the air as she spins, putting their own incredible flare into the routine. It’s quite impressive indeed.
Eventually, everyone in the audience was likely thinking the same thing. Could the pair actually pull off the lift move – and on ice?
Leave it to Ondrej and Stefania to not only conquer the lift once – but they actually perform it multiple times during the routine (although in unique ways). The first time, Ondrej hoists his partner up above his head, and she spreads her arms like a bird as he twirls her around.
The performance goes on with a mixture of steps from the film and also professional ice-skating moves. I don’t know about you, but I don’t remember Johnny spinning Baby around like what’s captured in the photo below… Amazing!
Ondrej and Stefania have their own version of a grand finale at the end, which comes in the form of a second “lift.”
Only this time, it’s on another level. Stefania’s held mainly by her partner’s outstretched arm, with one leg reaching for the sky as they skate around the ice. Surely all mouths dropped at that moment.
