The thing about the pandemic is that it has shown the resiliency of people around the planet. From every nation, every race, and every tongue, the show of solidarity and support have been overwhelming.

Then there are those with gifts who do their part as a means of inspiring millions who, one way or another, are fighting a struggle against this virus. Artists and musicians collectively joined their efforts and have produced moving renditions of their own original songs or classic hits as a means to raise awareness, inspire hope, and even contribute financially.

On April 18, 2020, Celine Dion, Andrea Bocelli, Lady Gaga, John Legend, and Lang Lang teamed up to perform “The Prayer”.

This was a song written by David Foster and friends, and is an original from Andrea and Celine. It has become a timeless hit, and surely a fitting song for the times now. Written in both English for Celine and Italian for Andrea, these two have performed this song together many times over the past decades and always they have stunned audiences.

To add to this collaboration, there is no denying the talent of Lady Gaga.

She is one wonderful a singer! She matches Bocelli and Dion for each pitch and she doesn’t hesitate to hit those high notes.

John Legend is one soulful singer also known for his charity work as he is also an actor and philanthropist.

His voice is a wonderful contrast to the powerful styles of Dion and Bocelli adding a cooler tone to the collaboration.

Lang Lang is a Chinese pianist and is instrumental in the spreading of the arts as he is also an educator and will perform for sold out stadiums and charity events.

Listen to his playing. It is so refreshing.

It’s safe to say that they were all in their own homes during the performance. Andrea and Celine both taking care of the Italian parts with Gaga and Legend blending in with their more modern style. Coupled with Lang Lang’s magic touch, the 1998 hit takes new meaning as they echo all the voices around the world in one beautiful rendition,

“In times when we don’t know
Let this be our prayer
When we lose our way
Lead us to a place
Guide us with your grace
To a place where we’ll be safe”

They don’t shy away from showcasing their vocal ranges either.

It’s so stunning to watch as we normally see them giving their all on stage, decked in nice outfits, with lights and expensive equipment, but now, in their homes, they hold nothing back.

Lang Lang’s solo part is breathtaking to behold.

He pours all his emotions in to the piano and one can’t help but think and sympathize with those going through tough times now. Such is the power of music. The man is fantastic.

It really is a superb showcase of talents especially knowing that this wasn’t done for ticket sales or fame.

Just people doing what they can to bring aid and relief whichever way possible and showing the world that we really are one.
