Compassion isn’t as difficult to come by as we’ve always thought. Despite heartbreaking content being shown on the news almost everyday, it’s hard to convince one’s self to find the silver lining. We’re not just talking acts of kindness towards other people, either.

Most people forget that animals too deserve respect, love, and care – especially the ones who wander the streets in search of food and shelter.

Fortunately, most homeless animals eventually find their happy endings, just like this happy dog. This is a heartwarming story of a stray pitbull who stopped at the right house.

Dogs have amazing instincts.

They’re alert and intelligent. They can sniff out more than just bad food, too – dogs can also more or less identify kindhearted humans from discourteous ones! As a classic example of this incredible ability, Panda the Pitbull headed for Nanci Richards’ home, somehow armed with an inkling that the homeowner would take him in and keep him safe. And he was right.

“One night, my dogs started barking, like, insane. So I looked out, and all of a sudden I see, like, a little tail. And I’m like, ‘Oh, there’s a dog out there!'” shared Panda’s rescuer.

It was 2:30 AM on March 26 when Panda and Nanci met. The latter, upon seeing the dog’s open sores, immediately brought the stray, severely underweight Pitbull to the vet. Then, she got in touch with her friend Suzanne Dixie, who worked with Fur Friends in Need animal rescue.

When Suzanne Capette and Nancy Flint heard Panda’s story, they did not hesitate to help the dog.

Careful inspection gave them more leads on the dog’s heart wrenching history.

“Being in rescue, we have seen many cases of abuse and neglect but Panda’s is the worst. He weighed in at 22 pounds and should probably weigh between 35 and 40 pounds. He has huge gaping sores, a curved spine… all of these physical symptoms can be equated with being kenneled while he was growing, not being given the proper nutrition, and laying in urine/feces soaked bedding.”

But the best part is, Panda is doing better. Much better.

Now, the happy Pitbull is in great shape, and is happier and healthier than ever.

Because of Nanci’s quick thinking and her friends’ efforts, Panda was immediately given the care he needed. From being extremely underweight, Panda became a healthier dog and even made some friends along the way: a bunny, dogs, and humans!

He’s experienced so much joy alongside his foster siblings, and more importantly, the love and compassion humans can readily extend for dogs like him. From that fateful day he went to Nanci’s house to when he met Suzanne and many others who would treat him like the precious animal that he is, Panda really has come a long way. This happy ending goes to show that there is still so much good in this world.
