Being away from family isn’t easy.
It can be lonely and difficult to get through tough days without their in-person support.
But when you finally get to reunite with them, it seems like the distance was all worth it.
For one marine, his moment of reunion was extra special.
After finishing his deployment and being picked up at the airport by his father, Roland was excited to come home and see his family for the first time in a while.
But he and his dad decided to have a little fun with the whole situation–they wanted to surprise everyone in a very clever way.
So, Roland gets into the back of the family’s car and hides, hoodie up, waiting for everyone to pile in.
Once the entire family is in the car, dad tells everyone to smile for a family picture.
He holds the camera up and the family can be seen on the screen.
They smile and get ready for dad to snap the photo.
But then, like a ghost, Roland pops his head up and smiles from the back of the car.
The family doesn’t seem to register what is happening and everyone continues smiling and waiting for the photo to be taken.
Then Roland’s dad says, “Wait, Roland, a little to right.”
Roland adjusts his head and at the sight of her son and the sound of his name, Roland’s mother reacts in a very touching way.
She repeats his name and stares into the screen, seeing her son for the first time in quite a while.
Once the reality of the situation sets in for her, she lets out scream after scream of joy, overwhelmed with the fact that her boy is back with the family again.
The rest of the family reacts in a similar way, overcome with happiness at seeing their brother again.
Roland climbs over the seats and all the way to the front of the vehicle where he steps out and gives his mom a proper hug.
It’s nothing but smiles and tears of joy in the car, as Roland and his dad laugh at the touching prank that they just played on the rest of the family.
It’s moments like these that remind us just how important family is.
The love and support that a good family can provide are essential to being successful in this life.
Roland seems to have a family that loves him very much and it’s great to see how excited they are to see him.
Having a family member that’s off fighting for our country is a bittersweet experience.
What they are doing is noble and brave and necessary at times–but you also can’t help but worry about them constantly.
A lot of people that go off to fight for our country, don’t make it back to see their families again.
That’s why this moment is extra special.
Not only is the family reunited again, but Roland is also alive and well and back from performing such an honorable duty.
