Funerals are the last place you’d want to laugh at. That’s pretty self-explanatory but when it’s the deceased who gives a reason for a good laugh, well… It would be rude not to laugh.
Like this Irish funeral that had mourners’ laughing when the pre-recorded voice message of Shay Bradley was played.
He was an Irish Defence Force veteran. Bradley was being buried in Kilmanagh, Leinster Ireland and as expected, everyone was in tears while an applause broke out during the solemn ceremony.
Until a voice was heard from the grave.
Bradley from “beyond” could be heard shouting, “Hello, hello. Let me out.” The hilarious audio clip made it sound like Shay was struggling inside and was knocking to be let out.
The voice continued,
“Where the f**k am I? Let me out, let me out. It’s f**king dark in here. Is that the priest I can hear? This is Shay, I’m in the box. No in f**king front of you. I’m dead.”
Bradley had his mourners wondering at first then laughing at the sound of his voice. The hilarious prank had everyone’s tears stopping abruptly. Shay went on singing, “Hello again hello, hello I just called to say goodbye.”
Family and friends could no longer hold back, bursting into giggles when it was supposed to be a sad moment.
Bradley suffered from a long-time illness and eventually passed away on October of 2019. Apparently, he wanted his goodbye to be a happy one.
The message was recorded before he passed.
It was played through a speaker in the ground to make it more realistic. What a great man!
Shay’s daughter Andrea wrote on Twitter: “He would love to know how many people he made laugh!!! He was an amazing character. IT was his dying wish that we played this at his funeral. What a man, to make us all laugh when we were incredibly sad. He was some man for one man. Love you forever Poppabear.
And as expected, Bradey’s late prank went viral. To think of others’ happiness even during his passing just showed how selfless Shay was.

The Irish Defence Forces Veteran’s News also shared the viral video on Facebook with a heartfelt message: “It is with great sadness that I was informed of the passing out of our Military Brother and Veteran Colleague Shay Bradley. On behalf of the members of the IDFVA, I extend our sincerest condolences and prayers to Anne and family at this sad time. May Shay rest in peace.”
They added in a separate post: “Was asked a question the other day, it was what’s the difference between military humour and civilian humour it’s simple it’s black. This video should say it all. This is the funeral of Shay Bradley on the 12 of October 2019 and it says it all…”
This was the way Bradley wanted to be remembered. He wanted to leave everyone smiling and laughing, their memory of him a moment totally unexpected but one not to be laughed at. Or actually, really laughed at.
