“I don’t want to to wait for our lives to be over
I want to know right now what will it be “
How has it already been 20 years since Dawson’s Creek premiered? It feels like just yesterday we were all waiting to know who Joey chose.
Spoiler Alert: She chose the right guy – Pacey! Sorry Dawson, but Pacey was infinitely better than Dawson. He wasn’t whiny!
Since Dawson’s Creek ended, the stars have all gone on to do various different projects. Michelle Williams has been nominated for an Oscar four times since the show’s finale.
Katie Holmes has also continued acting but has been more famously noted for her relationships. She married Tom Cruise and had their daughter, Suri, in 2006.
Katie and Tom have since split, but she’s still a dedicated mama and has been more recently linked to actor/rapper, Jamie Foxx.
On January 20th, 2018, Dawson’s Creek officially turned 20. The show debuted on that date in 1998. Doesn’t that make you feel old?
To celebrate the show’s 20th anniversary, Entertainment Weekly got the band back together (even Grams!) for a reunion photo shoot.
Dawson himself, James Van Der Beek, has aged very well! If I’m being entirely honest, he looks much better now than he did when he was on the show!
The reunion brought James (Dawson Leery), Katie (Joey Potter), Michelle (Jen Lindley), Joshua Jackson (Pacey Witter), Busy Phillips (Audrey Liddell), Kerr Smith (Jack McPhee), Meredith Monroe (Andie McPhee), and even Mary Beth Peil (Grams) all together again.
Entertainment Weekly reunited the cast as part of their Reunions series, as they’ve popularly reunited the cast of many popular TV shows and movies for photo shoots, like The X-Files, Fraiser, Boy Meets World, Do The Right Thing, School of Rock, and so much more.
The full photo shoot and interviews were be released in this month’s edition of Entertainment Weekly.
James Van Der Beek shared the photos of himself and the group on his personal Instagram profile.
He captioned the first photo with:
Always fun to get together with old friends… Thanks @entertainmentweekly for putting it all together. Humbled & honored #blessed #DawsonsCreek
And then James followed up on Instagram with the closeup shot of himself and captioned it:
#funfact My hair is actually a #unicorn mane weave that will magically fly me to safety in the event of an invasion by evil gnomes.
Since the show left the air in 2003, the cast has stayed in touch, but they haven’t really had a big reunion since then.
When speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Katie Holmes said:
“I think we’ve all sort of seen each other over the years, but not everybody all together. And never for long enough.”
Meredith Monroe fondly remembered her time filming Dawson’s Creek in North Carolina:
“It was like growing up together. I felt like I was so grateful that it was shooting in Wilmington. We all got to really connect in a way that I don’t think we would have had we been in New York or L.A.”
Dawson’s Creek ran on The WB from 1998 to 2003 and tackled many topics that plagued teenagers in the ’90s. The show had one of the most notable love triangles in TV history, between Joey, Pacey, and Dawson.
If this reunion is not enough for you, the entire series is now streaming on Hulu. Do yourself a favor and rewatch it ASAP!
