Planning a wedding can be very complicated. There is so much that goes into planning for just one night.
Couples need to pick a venue, a meal plan, flowers, who to invite, who to have in their bridal party, what to wear, and so much more. It can be very time consuming, but it is still very exciting at the same time. It is supposed to be the happiest time in a couple’s life!
But for one woman, her wedding plans got thrown for a wrench when her father was given weeks to live.
When Vieneese Stanton’s boyfriend proposed earlier this year, the couple was overjoyed with the idea of getting married. They planned to wed in 2018.
But Vieneese’s family got some very devastating news. Her father has leukemia and has been going through chemotherapy ever since his diagnosis.
Though Vieneese and her groom planned to get married in April 2018, they knew that the wedding just could not happen if her father wasn’t there.
Vieneese shared her father’s story on the popular Facebook page, Love What Matters.
“This was one of the best moments of my life. This man has raised me since I was 3 years old; and now I get the chance to be there for him. My Dad was diagnosed with leukemia in February of this year. He has been in and out of the hospital, and on several medications and chemo treatments; yet nothing has seemed to work in his favor. My Dad has no immune system because of the cancer and an infection has almost completely filled his right lung. Doctors believe that in the next few weeks, my Dad will no longer be able to breathe and was only given a few weeks to live because of his air quality in his lungs.
Her father thought she was going to get married in Las Vegas, but instead, they brought the wedding to the hospital, after moving it up five months.
Given the news of my father’s life expectancy (and with the help of an AMAZING nurse team), we were able to have a surprise wedding so my Dad could attend. The nurse team kept the wedding a secret from my Dad, so this whole day was a surprise to him.
As you can see in the photos, Vieneese’s father looks overjoyed and stunned by the surprise wedding. He has a smile on his face that is absolutely radiating!
After her wedding, the nurses were happy with her father’s attitude. As planned, they were ready to put him on hospice. But the nurses couldn’t help but make note of the new spunk and humor he had after the wedding.
Vieneese wrote:
We have both dreamed of him walking me down the aisle to my groom— and that moment finally happened. This was truly, best day of my life! ‘Dad, I love you more than you know, and I am going to be by your side for every step of this process.'”
