There are just some acts on America’s Got Talent that will be remembered for years to come and have taken their rightful place in television history. Darci Lynne’s performance is definitely one of those acts. The adorable 12-year-old already captured the hearts of all the judges and the entire audience with her brilliant ventriloquist act.
The audition
The girl from Oklahoma City left everyone in awe. She introduced the rabbit puppet Petunia during her audition and immediately made it clear that she wasn’t just a normal ventriloquist, she was a singing ventriloquist.
Her act is filled with humor and she delivers an astonishing performance, especially for someone of her age. Darci (or rather, Petunia) sang “Summertime” by George Gershwin which convinced judge Mel B to hit the Golden Buzzer and send her straight to the live shows. A very emotional and thankful Darci then received a big hug from Mel along with a deafening applause from the crowd.
Before she started her act, she was asked by Simon why she decided to enter the show.
“Well, it was one of my big dreams, but also, I want to keep ventriloquism alive because it’s not common, you know.”
The semi-finals
And it certainly didn’t stop there. Darci returned in the semi-finals and brought a new puppet friend: Edna. Her puppet is an elderly woman who resides in a home and seems to have developed a bit of a crush on the generally strict judge Simon Cowell. It’s an absolutely hilarious spectacle to see and it makes Darci stand out from other ventriloquist ads.
“Where’s that Simon fella”, Edna asks almost instantly.
During the act, Edna is flirting, laughing and devoting all her attention toward Simon, and even performed a song for him. Edna couldn’t have picked a better song: “A Natural Woman” by Aretha Franklin.
In the midst of the remarkable performance, Edna asks Darci to bring her closer to Simon and his reactions are absolutely priceless. The serenade the judges received on the table made the crowd go wild. Edna left Simon almost breaking out into tears laughing and some might say he was even blushing a bit.
Darci received a standing ovation from the crowd and after this phenomenal performance, she was voted to go to the finals of America’s Got Talent. If Darci wins, she’ll receive one million dollars in prize money and will headline a show in Las Vegas.
