What if the one thing that you are passionate about turns out to be the trigger for your illness? What would you do when you are faced in a situation where you have to give up your dreams?
Briar Nolet is an aspiring young contemporary dancer. At the age of 19, she is at the peak of her passion and game – she had her goals and dreams in her hands but one day, something happened.
“In a matter of seconds, my whole life just stopped. I was in a dance studio and my right had just started to shake. Eyes rolled back to my head and then I was unconscious before I hit the floor. I had a very severe seizure that put me unconscious for about 5-10 minutes.”
All of her dreams became questionable. Her will and passion has turned into confusion. How will this young girl continue her dream of dancing?
“I almost died before I lost oxygen to my brain. I kept having seizures every time I danced. Something about dance triggered my seizures but I didn’t want to not go to the dance studio because I have a chance of having a seizure. I’d rather face the fear and go for it, even if that means that I’d go down for it “

Even after being diagnosed with epilepsy, Briar wasn’t someone who would just give up on her dreams. She joined NBC’s World of Dance and showed everyone that this isn’t just for her passion for dancing but also proof that she can conquer her illness. She wanted the world to see that she can still dance even if she has epilepsy.

Even though her performance wowed many, she lost against All Ready. Though, Briar isn’t the kind of girl who gives up easily. So, as she qualifies for the Redemption round, she came back and showed everyone that she is deserving of a spot in the next round.

Everyone was in awe as Briar showed how graceful and powerful her performance was as she dances on the stage and at last, the results show who the winner was.

Briar Nolet won via a majority of votes and aside from her sweet victory, this amazing dancer left Jennifer Lopez into tears.
“You are a survivor. Don’t give up and you came out here and you really fought and that moved me.”
said J.Lo as she tells Briar how she has touched her soul.

“I’m always proud to see people to rise to the occasion of the moment and not be afraid. You have to push through the fear and go
‘I’m gonna do it no matter what. With all these obstacles in my way, I’m gonna do it. ‘
You’ve inspired a lot of people tonight.”
Indeed, these words from Jennifer Lopez was deep and genuine. Everyone who understands Briar’s battle would definitely feel the same way too.
A young lady who has a passion and the courage to win the battle against her illness is indeed an inspiration to all of us. So, if you know someone fighting a battle, support them and make them feel that they can move mountains.
