A baby can recognize her father quite easily. Experts and studies suggest that babies develop such ability even before they are born. Remember, dads talk a lot to babies when they are still in their mother’s womb. They develop a strong bond and connection even before they are brought to this world.
When it comes to facial expressions, it can take quite a bit more time. This is because babies’ vision is limited in the first weeks of their lives. However, babies can definitely recognize the faces of their parents within the first few weeks.
9-month-old Claire was so used to seeing his dad’s face and beard.
So when Justin decided to finally say goodbye to his bristles, his baby girl gave out quite an expression.
Justin used to work in the oil industry. When he lost his job, he decided to just grow out his beard. He wanted to see how long he could get it to grow and keep it that way.
Justin, however, landed a job interview a few months after. To prepare for that interview, he needed to get back to shape and that including polishing his looks. That’s when his wife Kirsten suggested that he get rid of the facial fuzz. He willingly followed his wife’s suggestion and got a hair cut along with a fresh shave.
Feeling his smooth skin wasn’t the only thing that made Justin excited that day.
He wanted to see how her precious daughter would react. Babies can easily recognize their parents but he wanted to know if his daughter would easily recognize him even without the beard.
Before he actually changed his looks, Justin played a game of peek-a-boo with Claire and she clearly enjoyed it. And right after shaving his beard off, he played another round of the game. This time, he used a piece of brown cloth to cover half of his face and to avoid startling his little kid.
Just after Justin took off the cover on his face, Claire paused for a few seconds. It was as if she was trying to figure out who the person in front of her was. Then, her reaction went from puzzled to confused and then sad. She ended up in tears and wouldn’t look at his dad!
Good thing Claire was a smart little girl.
She eventually realized that it was his dad. However, she didn’t stop crying right away. Her mom needed to hold her to calm her down.
It was heartbreaking because you don’t want to have your kid feel bad. But she’s supersmart, so she picked up real quick and realized that it was me.- Justin shared.
Babies go through different milestones as they grow up. This idea motivated Justin and Kirsten to record every single milestone of their first child. The videos would be a nice way to look back at their child’s development throughout the years.
Little did they know that a simple clip of her daughter’s amusing reaction to his shaved face would go viral. The footage has been viewed more than 3 million times and it’s continuously making a lot of people smile. Clearly, a father-and-daughter bond is hard to break- even with shaving and getting a new haircut.
