There are few things in life that are more monumental for a father than dancing with his daughter on her wedding day.
And rather than just go through the motions of a nice slow dance that is bound to bring a tear to everyone’s eye, this father-daughter combo decided to make it a dance that would never be forgotten.
Now, they still gave the audience a moment of sentimental slow dancing, but once that was over, things got shaken up a bit.
The slow song cut out and in its place, LMFAO’s “Everyday I’m Shuffling” came on over the speakers.
The father and daughter acted confused for just a second before breaking into a rehearsed dance that was much more entertaining and upbeat.
Which is good.
Because weddings should always stay as positive as possible.
There are times at weddings were tears are allowed and sentimental moments are a must.
But at the heart of any good wedding is a celebration–a celebration of love.
Because what can be worth celebrating more than two people falling in love and committing themselves to each other for a lifetime?
I mean, if your lucky, you’ll only get married once, so you’ve got to make it count.
As soon as the father and daughter finish their dance to LMFAO, Carly Rae Jepsen comes on over the speakers.
An entirely new vibe fills the room as “Call Me Maybe” plays and the father and daughter dance out another well-practiced routine.
They both turn and point back at the groom (who seems to be thoroughly enjoying the show) while Jepsen sing’s the line, “It’s hard to look right at you baby.”
The room cheers, the groom laughs, and the father and daughter keep the moves coming.
By the time they finish their dance, they’ve gone through 4 or 5 songs.
In the end, they invite everyone out to the dance floor and the wedding celebration continues.
What makes this dance even more unique is the fact that the songs they chose weren’t your typical father-daughter wedding dance songs.
We’ve all seen dad and daughter glide back and forth to something expected like “My Girl” by The Temptations or “My Little Girl” by Tim McGraw.
Sure the songs they chose were well-known, but they definitely weren’t expected.
None of the songs that they danced to were in Brides.com’s collection of the 60 best father-daughter dance songs.
It’s great to see a father take the time to rehearse something special with his daughter on her wedding day.
Because one of the most influential aspects of a girl’s life is the presence of her father.
According to the Center for Disease Control, “Fathers’ involvement in their children’s lives has been shown to have a positive effect on children and their well-being in many areas—for example, on increasing the chances of academic success and in reducing the chances of delinquency and substance abuse.”
So after watching this video, I know one thing for sure: the next time I’m at a wedding, I’m going to have high expectations for the father-daughter dance.
And should I ever have a daughter of my own, we’ll be sure to put on a show that no one will ever forget.
