It seems like every kid has one these days, but this dad wants to make sure parents are aware of the hidden danger.

Fidget spinners were really popular for a few months. Every kid seemed to have one. Most parents didn’t mind buying them because they are small and affordable. Kids took them to school, played with them in restaurants, and even took them with them in the car.

The toy was created to help kids with ADHD.

The point was to allow them to play with the fidget spinner while sitting at their desks or concentrating on school work, so they would sit still and not have to move around.

Schools started to allow them because they were considered educational aids. Kids saw other kids with them and then decided they had to have them, too. Before we knew it, fidget spinners were the hot item to have.

It wasn’t long until people got bored with playing with them the right way.

They decided to start experimenting with them. People wanted to see just how fast they would spin, and they had plenty of ways to make them go.

One dad was doing this very experiment while his young son watched when something horrible happened. The fidget spinner exploded and hit his son in the face. It caused a nasty gash on this face, and the family had to spend the evening in the ER. The dad was so upset about what happened that he felt like he needed to warn other parents about the dangers of the toys.

He posted about it on social media and included photos of his son’s injuries.

He said:

“I know this post isn’t gonna be easy for some to look at, but I felt it necessary. This was caused from playing with a fidget spinner and compressed air (air compressor) spraying across it. I was holding the spinner and the air hose when it happened. We had been playing with it for a while and all of a sudden the plastic on the fidget spinner exploded. We are at the ER now waiting to have stitches. I am sharing so no one else has the same stupid idea that I had. We were lucky it missed his eyes. It could have been much worse.”

This isn’t the only incident where a fidget spinner caused an emergency.

Kimberly Allums had bought her sons Bluetooth spinners that needed to be charged. She said she was shocked to find that one of them had caught on fire while plugged into the charger. She explained:

“I was downstairs and all I heard was, ‘Fire, fire,’ and the fidget spinner had literally, it was smoking. It was in flames.”

There have been numerous other accidents involving the fidget spinners. These accidents resulted in the Consumer Product Safety Commission investigating the devices and releasing a statement about them. The statement said:

“Consumers should be present when products with batteries are charging. Never charge a product with batteries overnight while you are sleeping. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions and use the charger from the manufacturer that is designed specifically for your device.”

A consumer watchdog group has also been keeping tabs on these toys since they came out on the market.

It also released a warning for parents. The World Against Toys Causing Harm’s president, Joan Siff, said:

“Do not be lulled into a false sense of security that a toy is safe simply because it is popular.”

Luckily, the toys seem to be becoming less popular, and fewer kids are interested in them. Hopefully, this will also stop them from experimenting with them and using them improperly. If used the right way, fidget spinners are completely harmless.

Sadly, most people get bored with them and want them to do more.

If you have a fidget spinner, make sure you are not doing anything that could cause it to explode or catch on fire. Either use it safely or get rid of it and move on to a new toy.

Please SHARE this with your friends and family.
