They say that one of the things that go by the fastest in your life is being a parent.
Now, I’m not a parent, but at age 27, I have experienced the phenomenon of years flying by.
High school, for example, felt like it never happened. But I still have memories of the long, dragged-out days in Spanish class that seemed to never end.
So that’s why what this father decided to do with his daughter is such a good idea.
Rather than just experience these amazing moments with his daughter day after day, he decided to document them and put them together in a way that can be relived no matter how much time goes by.
And not only did he document their time together, but he also worked it around a thematic activity.
And what better theme than music?
At just one month old, the father cradles his infant daughter as he plays a calming song on the piano.
As the video, and the time, continues to go by, the daughter grows and the music continues to be played.
Some days (or should I say years?), the daughter is lulled to sleep by her father’s melodic playing.
Other days, she is fully part of the action, trying her hand at piano playing.
Although, her little hands aren’t quite strong enough to push down the keys.
Some days, she gets the urge to sing and decides to let out her best impression of a classical singer.
This usually comes out as cute grunts and playful cheers. Which, in my opinion, is much better than the actual words.
As a bonus to the time that he already gets to spend with his young daughter, the father is also helping to improve her intelligence.
According to the Greater Good Magazine out of UC Berkeley, “Its primary scientific support comes from a 1993 study showing that classical music temporarily improved college students’ scores on two parts of a general intelligence test. Subsequent studies have found classical music improved preschoolers’ performance on paper folding and cutting tasks.”
Sure her dad could have played modern songs on the piano, introducing her to pop music at a young age.
But something tells me that the father wouldn’t have been interested in playing those songs, and neither would his daughter have been to listen to them.
Not only is this video awesome and touching for us to watch, but it is even more beneficial for the baby girl.
According to Romper.com, “If a baby spends more time with their dad than traditional roles would suggest, babies are healthier, happier, and some of the maternal stress is mitigated, even if the mother is still the primary caregiver. … A happier, less-stressed caregiver, is a more effective caregiver.”
So if there are any expectant parents out there who are looking for a fun and positive way to spend time with their new-born, let this video be a source of inspiration for you.
You don’t need to know how to play piano scales or beautiful classical music.
You just need to choose something that you are good at and find a way to integrate that into quality time with your baby.
Because like they say, it’s going to fly by.
So didn’t waste it.
