“It just takes one second between life or death.”

Ring-shaped goodness smothered and glazed with delectable icing, sprinkled with a rainbow of sprinkles can get anyone’s mouth going.

And for a father and son from Colorado, it’s something they look forward to every other week.

But what they thought of as just their usual donut run turned out to be a near-death experience.

Allan Taylor was standing by the counter when the unimaginable happened.

The whole episode was caught on CCTV cameras provided by the establishment of City Donuts.

In the said video, you can see his 4-year-old son Zane was happily waiting for him and was standing beside one of the donut displays.

Then came the car.

Zane can be seen jerking up in surprise before his dad turned to what was happening outside the store.

In the next seconds, shards of glass, pieces of cement, and splinters of wood burst into the store.

A Hyundai plowed through the donut shop.

What happened next was terrifying to think because the 4-year-old kid was out of sight after the car hit the donut displays. But another CCTV camera showed what happened.

Dad saves the day

Just as the car was heading towards Zane, his father Allan quickly grabs his son and pulls him to the side.

He rolled his body to put his son out of harm’s way which ended up with him being hit instead.

It was fatherly instinct at its best, and it averted what would’ve been a horrifying disaster.

“[I] was paying and doing what I always do — I glance at him, make sure he’s fine, and I glanced to look at him and I saw the car coming through the door,” Taylor recalled to FOX News. “It was hitting me as I was grabbing him.”

Taylor credits his parental instincts.

“So always keep your head on a swivel when you’ve got your kids, you just never know,” Taylor said to the news outlet. “It just takes one second between life or death.”

He also said that he participated in sports in his younger years which helped him save his son from danger.

Authorities are currently investigating the matter.

Aurora Police said that the car was stolen and the driver ran a red light in the nearby street. It hit another car before ramming into the donut shop.

Kirk Manzanares, brother of the owner of the store, witnessed the entire incident.

He narrated that the suspect quickly fled the scene after almost killing a little child.

“He just kind of rolled right into the store and broke out the doors and the window into the donut case. Then he looked at me and I looked at him and he took off running.” Manzanares said to KDVR.

The total damage was $50,000.

The store boarded up a section of where the glass window once was and repaired what they can. They are also back in doing business.

Even after enduring significant damages, Manzaners expressed that he was just thankful that nobody was seriously hurt and that everyone made it out alive.

“I’m just really happy that the kid is OK, and the dad was OK,” Manzanares said to KDVR. “That was my main concern.”
