Dad Makes Daughter Walk 5 Miles To School For Bullying Others
He made her walk the 5-mile-long trek in 36-degree weather because he was teaching her a lesson. "I know a lot of you parents are not going to agree with this, but that is all right because I'm doing what I feel is right to teach my daughter..."

An Ohio father is in the news after he made 10-year-old daughter walk approximately five miles to get to school after she was caught bullying her peers on the bus.

The dad, determined to teach his daughter a valuable lesson about how to treat others, followed his daughter in his car while she took the long walk to get to class one foggy morning.

Matt Cox, the girl’s father, posted a video of his daughter walking along the side of the road early Monday morning.

He added to the post,

“This lovely lady is my 10-year old daughter, who has, for the second time this school year, been kicked off the school bus, due to bullying another student.”

A Lesson on Foot

Matt was out to teach his daughter a priceless lesson and wanted to make it perfectly clear to her that bullying is not okay, and it is not something he will tolerate.

“Let me make this extremely clear: bullying is unacceptable, especially in my household.”

The Friday before the video was posted and his daughter made the long trek to get to school, Matt got a letter from the school. The letter was to let him know that his daughter was suspended from the bus, indefinitely, but for at least a week.

“She said, ‘Daddy, you’re going to have to drive me to school next week.’ As you see this morning, she is learning otherwise.”

A Dad’s Reasoning

Matt felt that his daughter did not deserve a ride, as it would be reinforcing the bad behavior that he did not condone from her. Instead, he insisted that since she was being so cold-hearted to others, she could learn a thing or two about the cold, while she walked five miles in it.

It was definitely cold. The temperature was only thirty-six degrees on Monday morning when the 10-year-old walked almost the long distance to get to school on time.

“I know a lot of you parents are not going to agree with this, but that is all right because I’m doing what I feel is right to teach my daughter a lesson and to stop her from bullying.”

– Matt

Since being posted, Matt Cox’s video has been shared over 350,000 times and viewed over 16 million times.

The Debate

Bullying is a major problem in schools and even with zero-tolerance policies in place, it still takes place and students still suffer because of it every single day, making school less of a place to learn for some students, and more of a hell on Earth.

Facebook users chimed in with their perspective in response to the video:

“I wish all parents were so caring about their children. Our world would be much better.”

– Lana Huseyn

I see nothing but tough love from a parent here teaching his child a lesson. For no reason should any child bully another child about any thing. I’m sure she’ll make better choices next time and be respectful to other kids on the bus.

Others who did not agree also commented:

Is it necessary to make a video of the child?

I see where she learned her BULLY behavior from … no argument here….facts!!!

Do you agree with Matt’s decision? Did he go too far or was it a lesson that matched the crime? Watch the video below.
