There are some parents who can still hold it down and it is really impressive. When you have a “cool” parent who can dance, sing, or just get down with the young kids in general, it is definitely really rare and fun. Parents hanging out with their children and doing fun stuff together is the best! It’s almost inspiring, even.
And we’ve found a perfect example of that. This cool dad was not about to let self-isolation get in the way of a proper dad-son dance-off. Instead, the two figured out the technology and how to make it so that, even from separate houses, they can still dance together and dish out some friendly “insults.”
The father, Chris Starkey, uploaded this hilarious video to his YouTube channel late last month, where he dance battles it out with his oldest son — who is named Sage and is 27-years-old.
“What’s up everyone? It’s Chris… [My son] is a singer and dancer at Disney World! So he thinks I’m taking advantage of his younger sister, Brooklyn, and he said it’s time to take me down,” Chris says at the beginning of the video.
“He’s challenged me to a battle to the first dance that Brooklyn and I did. So we need you guys to vote. I just got one thing to say: You’re going down son!”
It’s no doubt that Chris is speaking with the most confidence, so our expectations are definitely high!
Then Sage comes in with his own little intro:
“That’s right, I challenged my dad to this quarantine challenge. Why? Because I think it’s time for him to pick on someone his own size. And yes, I’m a singer and dancer at Walt Disney World, but that’s just the beginning for me,” Sage laughs.
Then he adds that Disney is actually where his own father started and has photo evidence to prove it. Ouch — we can already tell that they will be going head-to-head on this one, that’s for sure!
“Let’s make this interesting, since you’re the raining champ. If I win, I get to choose what you wear for the next quarantine challenge… So everyone out there, make sure to vote for Sage,” he wraps up with a friendly laugh.
Oof, now we know the stakes are high! But that doesn’t get these two down. The hit smash, “Low” by Flo Rida, comes on and these two boys waste no time getting right into the dance.
The dance is fully choreographed as they both dance in sync. Sage has got it on lock and we are not surprised given his occupation.
But it doesn’t stop there… Turns out, the dad is really good too and he has definitely still got it! He matches up with his son and dances with so much enthusiasm, we have to say it is pretty impressive for someone who has been out of the game for a couple of years.
They both nail intricate footwork and twists and spins… And it is definitely not something you can just learn in a couple of minutes. They are skilled and put a lot of work into it!
