Sophie Fatu is not your typical 5-year-old. At such a young age she has already been on America’s Got Talent, interviewed on Ellen, performed on Little Big Shots, and has her own successful YouTube channel, Sophie Fatu, with over 23 million views and more than 80,000 followers. That’s a lot for someone so young!
But then again, it makes sense, her dad, Cristine Fatu, is an award-winning violinist and her mom, Victoria Fatu, is a professional pianist. With a family that full of talent, she must have been born ready to sing. But enough about that, today is about her performance that left all four judges on America’s Got Talent speechless. Here is how it went down:
A quick interview with the judges
As expected, Tyra Banks walked with Sophie to the center of the stage. You know how ridiculous grown-ups get when they try to talk to babies or 5-year-olds, where you lower your voice and try to simplify everything you say? Well, that’s exactly what happened, and Sophie was ready for it.
First up was Heidi Klum. She asked Sophie a series of random questions about who she is, where she is from, and how she got to the stage. Each question was followed by simply adorable responses like, “West Bjinia.” That’s not a typo. She actually said, “West Bjinia.” Naturally, the crowd responded with long, “awwws” and “ohhhs.” After speaking with Heidi, the interview quickly transitioned over to Simon Cowell.
Sophie went on to confess that Simon was, in fact, her favorite judge. She then added that she had a dream where Simon pushed the golden button for her. It’s adorable. Simon got a kick out of it as well.
The Actual Performance
If you’re like me, you probably thought she was going to sing a kindergarten tune or something children would usually enjoy, but not Sophie. With the intro music playing in the background none of the judges were sure of what was going to happen next. A few seconds into her singing, everyone could tell that Sophie was not messing around at all.

She absolutely killed Frank Sinatra’s My Way. Sophie bravely went for high notes and left the judge’s in obvious awe. Of course, she received a standing ovation for an absolutely astounding performance.
The Proposal
As Sophie’s favorite judge, Simon got to start off the responses to the performance. Now, if you watch America’s Got Talent, you know Simon is the most difficult judge to please, more often than not he has nothing but painful and critical words for contestants. But he was so impressed with Sophie’s performance that he actually suggested that Sophie should date his son. Sophie, adorable as ever, opened her mouth in disbelief.
The Vote
So did she get in? Normally this is the nerve-wracking part of most competitions, waiting to hear what the judges think, but not this time. Sophie got four yes votes from all the judges and responded with a cute, “Thank you, ” each time. So, yes, she does get to the next round. It is guaranteed to be just as amazing as this round, if not more.
