Times have been tough, money has been tight and people are seriously struggling right now. The world is trying to open up again so that people can get back to work and start living again, but it has to be done safely.
Floyd’s Barbershop in Denver was closed during the lockdown two months ago and as a result their hairstylists have been struggling to make ends meet.
Luckily, the shop has since reopened and the stylists have been able to return to work, but that doesn’t mean everything is back to normal!
People are still struggling with their finances and will be for some time!
Ilisia Novotny just so happened to pick up a Saturday shift, the first day Floyd’s was open since the lockdown. It made for a really busy shift, understandably, and she was just finishing up when she got a walk-in customer.
He had just moved to Denver from Chicago, and the two got on well, talking about the state, sports and the pandemic.
He left satisfied with his cut and left behind a surprise for Novotny.
Before leaving, he had said “Just so you know, it’s not a mistake,” without any explanation. It turns out…
The anonymous customer had left $2500 as a tip!
He even left additional tips to the other staff members, totalling $5,800!
That is some serious good karma he’s leaving behind.
Needless to say, Novotny was blown away by this random act of kindness!
“I cried. I’m a single mother. It’s been rough the last few months not knowing what’s going to happen, not knowing when we might reopen so I could go back to work.” -Ilisia Novotny
The tip was able to get her back on track somewhat, and pay June’s rent in advance! Novotny was so well loved by her client base that people were actually sending her Venmo payments to help her through the quarantine.
Even with the support however, she still had to work out deals with her utlities company and landlord to ensure she and her family would be safe and happy.
“My son was like, ‘If you don’t have a job, how are we gonna pay bills?’”
Floyd’s shared the story and it’s quickly been picked up by news outlets and shared across social media!
“The support we’ve seen since being able to reopen some of our shops where regulations allow has been astounding. This is just one great story from one of our Denver shops. Thank you to our communities for supporting us during this time.” -Floyd’s Barbershop on Facebook
Floyd’s Barbershop is seriously well loved in every community where they have a location, and they’ve clearly made it a point to foster a good community! That pays dividends when stories like these happen.
Novotny was incredibly grateful to her clients helping her out, and this anonymous giver especially. She’s coming back to work already booked right through the month, so things are looking like they’re going to get better for her!
“Coming back and having clients, even people you don’t know, show so much love, it felt great”
Such generosity is a serious rarity, especially in desparate times like these. You’re one in a million our anonymous friend! To not even want recognition speaks to a higher humility, keep being you and being a model citizen for the rest of us! We need it right now.
