Bugs are one of the most disgusting things in the world. And finding them in the home is usually a terrible experience. But this guy managed to please the world with his recent infestation mishap.
Imagine being the mailman to this home:
You knock on the door, and it gets opened. Inside, there are hundreds of crickets chirping and hopping everywhere, while a guy manically tries to catch them all.
Anyone would be filled with questions and want to run away as soon as possible!
Is this a biblical plague of insects?
How come the giy is rounding the bugs up and not squishing them?
Are they in my hair? Oh God, they’re in my hair!
This crazy infestation happened recently to a reporter for the Washington Post named Christopher Ingraham.
As he’s a reporter, he had the good sense to keep people updated on the escalating situation. And what happened is hilarious.
But how did this crazy scene begin?
He and his family recently had a new addition to the family. They adopted a bearded dragon lizard.
Christopher was told that the best thing to feed dragon lizards was crickets.
Wanting to save money, Christopher placed a huge online order of crickets. Because that’s apparently something that someone can do.
The package arrived. From the chirping noises, Christopher knew that the animals were inside. However, like most people, he assumed that the crickets would be kept in a container.
Wrong.
He was about to make a huge mistake. He grabbed some scissors and cut the box open.
Out jumped over 100 crickets.
Thinking fast, Christopher tried to reseal the box with the tape he’d just cut.
He was busy with work, so he decided to deal with the escaped crickets later.
It occurred to him that the best place for the resealed box was his upstairs bathroom, as no one was likely to venture in there until he was done.
He got back to work. The only thing that he’d forgotten to do was inform his wife, who was also working from home.
Later, Christopher’s wife asked why there are crickets all over the kitchen. He looked. It appeared that the room was filled with them. It looked like more than the amount that had escaped.
Christopher made the wise decision to check on the bathroom box, eventually.
He hadn’t sealed the box properly. Now crickets were literally everywhere.
The only solution left for Christopher was to get to the shed and retrieve an empty fish tank. But the 18 inches of snow outside made this incredibly tough.
By the time that Christopher had returned, the crickets had dispersed to every room in the home.
But Christopher was determined to sort it out. He spent the next 10 hours collecting as many crickets as possible. He described the experience as “like the world’s shittiest game of Pokemon.”
The only help he had during this time was from his cats, who loved hunting them down.
However, the crickets were able to sneak all over the home, in places where Christopher and his cats couldn’t reach.
That means that days later, the cricket critters are still turning up. And there’s an almost constant chirping coming from every room in the house.
