It’s no secret that babies are adorable.
Now, this was something that took me a long time to realize.
Maybe it’s because I was young, and a guy, and had no real experience with a baby that meant anything to me.
But right around 26 years old, I started to understand why other people went so crazy for cute little babies.
And that realization came about for two reasons:
For one, my sister had just given birth to her first child (which was also my first nephew) and for the first time, I was able to hold and interact with a baby that I actually had feelings for.
And two, I started seeing myself as a person who was at a reasonable age to actually have a baby of my own.
So when I saw other cute babies, I started to picture myself having one as well.
I was still a long way off from being ready to raise a little baby (and still am), but that didn’t (and doesn’t) change the fact that the possibility seems more realistic to me now.
So when I saw this video of a cute little baby reacting to her dad as she wakes up, I couldn’t help but smile.
Little Mickey was asleep in her crib when her dad decides to come in and watch his precious child sleep.
He had his camera rolling and just so happened to walk in at the right time.
Because within thirty seconds of arriving, that little baby of his woke up and started her series of baby-stretches and eye-rubs.
When she finally did crack her eyes open, she looked around and started taking in her surroundings.
She let out the smallest cry before focusing on her dad who was standing above her.
He says hi and she slowly points a chubby little finger up in his direction as if to say, “Hey, I know you.”
Her dad responds to her point of recognition by saying back to her, “Love you.”
At the sound of his voice, little Mickey melts into a puddle of happy baby smiles.
She grins wide, gives a few more baby stretches and eye rubs, then focuses back on her dad, and smiles wide again.
Although her dad is enjoying this moment just as much as she is, it is an even better moment for her.
This is because having a loving and affectionate dad is crucial for her as she grows.
CNN tells us that a new study suggests that, “Babies who receive above-average levels of affection and attention from their mothers are less likely than other babies to grow up to be emotionally distressed, anxious, or hostile adults.”
And that affection doesn’t only have to come from the mother.
The study mentions later that, “healthy bonds between young children and parents are crucial to a child’s emotional development.”
So whether dad realizes this or not, it is clear that what he is doing is extremely positive to his baby’s overall mental health and development.
If you have a bay in your life, make sure to give it as much attention and love as you can.
Give them the security of unconditional love and watch them grow and thrive as young children into adulthood.
Oh, and don’t forget to bring your phone along to record some of those cute momnets.
Because we’d love to see them as well.
