Mistakes are easily made, and the wrong telephone numbers are entered and dialed all the time. This particular mistake, however, had some unwanted consequences for a 19-year-old teen from Charlottesville, Virginia. A listing ad was placed on a local Craigslist page, and it included the teen’s phone number.
Shannon was simply lying in his bed when he noticed a text message from an unknown person.
“Just saw the ad for [the] heifer. Are you really only asking $50? Hope this text didn’t wake you since ad was so recently placed.”
To which Shannon simply responded with a “Who is this?” followed up by “No, I think you have the wrong number.”
The person who was interested in the ad then said the following:
“There is a Craigslist ad for a heifer with your number listed as [a] text contact.”
Shannon didn’t know what he was seeing, and asked the person to show the ad page and even asked what a heifer is.
“I’ve never been involved with farming a day in my life.”
To clear things up, a heifer is a female cow that hasn’t given birth yet. Apparently, the ad listed a heifer for sale for the price of just $50, which resulted in a lot of interested farmers giving Shannon a text or a call.
“Selling a black (heffer) who likes to go by boo boo. Need her gone ASAP. Relocating and she can’t come with. She’s well trained and does the job well,” the Craigslist ad reads.
There were no contact details, except for Shannon’s phone number.
“[Someone called me] and they were asking for a ‘heifer’ or something,” Shannon said to BuzzFeed. “I was like, ‘Excuse me? I think you have the wrong number.'”
Thinking it was a simple mistake, Shannon just went to bed for a good night’s rest but was astonished to see the notifications on his phone the next morning. In fact, he received so many messages and missed calls that his smartphone couldn’t display all the notifications altogether.
Shannon had to disappoint all the people who contacted him saying that the cow wasn’t for sale anymore, and he even jokingly told one person that the cow wasn’t available because he “just had steak for breakfast.”
“This has been the worst morning of my life,” the teen funnily tweeted. His tweet quickly gathered plenty of attention, as his funny text messages were retweeted over 80,000 times and have been liked by 280,000 readers. A lot of people expressed their sympathy for Shannon, as well as for his phone.

The teen even tried telling people that he tried putting the heifer down, but they didn’t care at all.

The 19-year-old teen is studying at Old Dominion University as a sophomore. He’s currently taking a lot of jobs during the summer break to save up some budget for the new school year, although we don’t think he’ll be trying Craigslist anytime soon.
