Youtube influencers often make their way to fame by starting or doing various challenges that go viral. The videos rack up likes, comments, and eventually send the influencer to internet stardom. What started out sounding like another YouTube Challenge for FaZe Rug, turned into an emotional adventure for him and his cousin Nour.
The pair opened the video saying how they were going to attempt to purchase everything from the 99 cent store. That meant down every aisle, every item. It’s clear that this isn’t a place Rug stops at often, because not long into their trip he’s disappointed not everything is actually 99 cents. Nour didn’t realize it either, so they decide to take bets on how much their grand total is going to be. The early bets were well over $1000, and they also encouraged the audience to guess as well.
They decide it’s going to take around five or six carts total to go through over twelve aisles of groceries and toiletries, so they start with two and begin the challenge.
As they’re filling their cart, they’re amazed at how fast they managed to get one of everything to the checkout. They have a grand total of a full 8 shopping carts and Nour’s guess drops from the thousands to $789, while Rug’s guess is around $723. The cashier rings up all their items and the grand total ends up being $528.63, and the impressive part isn’t the total, or the length of the receipt, but the fact that Rug and Nour plan on taking all the items they bought that day and donating them to a local homeless shelter.
After the struggle of fitting all eight carts into the tiny hatchback, they make their way to Interfaith Community Services, a homeless shelter in California. The staff greets them at their car and are in awe of what Rug and Nour have brought in. Their haul consists of food, blankets, backpacks, toothbrushes, toilet paper and more. The two workers that help bring in the items can’t believe what they have on their hands and bring Rug and Nour inside to unload and talk more about what the shelter offers.
The 49 bed shelter works to help men and women get back on their feet. While at the shelter, people are given a bed and access to a locker and then work with a case worker to find employment and get them what they need to survive. After seeing all the beds Rug already starts talking about how he should have brought in more blankets and bacpacks, and what he’s going to bring the next time he comes. The worker, still in shock of what they’ve done insists that what he did is already an incredible feat. “All that food you brought in, all those items you brought it- they are going to go a long way.” These influencers not only made an impact on the shelter that they delivered to, but every young person watching as well, showing how good it feels to make a difference.
