The 2018 Divisions for Shag Dancing were intense, mostly thanks to these two.
Autumn Jones and Brennan Goree brought their A-game to the competition. Dancing is fun. Dancing for sport is fun too, but undoubtedly bound to get some people nervous.
Your mindset should be “Let’s do this” from the very start, anything less could mean disaster. These two need no such reminder.
Plus, for a couple’s dance, it’s also imperative that you trust your partner. Let’s be real here, if you’re going to be swinging each other around for 3 minutes, you should believe that your partner can handle themselves when you’re not looking at them.
Autumn and Brennan have been doing this for years, so that trust is as strong as it can be – and it might just be the biggest factor that helped them during this competition.
When they’re not dancing, Autumn works as a cosmotologist and bartender. Brennan himself works under the U.S National Guard as a contractor for their Department of Defense. A pretty interesting other side to their lives, no?
And boy, can these two dance.
Footwork is flawless, as usual. One of the few things that never gets old is seeing a skilled dancer go to work on the floor, and this is definitely one such moment.
There’s zero hesitation from these two. It’s just them, the dance floor, and the music. Everything they need.
Autumn is superb with her twirls and balance. She never fails to match Brennan’s pace, and she manages to do all this in heels, no less.
Spinning can be pretty dizzying to the inexperienced. Spinning again and again to the pace of a dance partner, even more so. Autumn deserves some praise for that alone.
Brennan over here has the crowd eyeing his moves too, and for good reason. Usually, it’s the ladies who look far more graceful and flexible than the men they’re dancing with.
But here? It’s hard to tell who’s more graceful.
Footwork is one thing, sure. But Brennan has clearly learned how to loosen up the shoulders and waist during a dance, something incredibly critical to a performance. Loosening up can mean the difference between clean, elegant dancing, and awkward, stiff dancing.
This crowd is absolutely receiving a treat, all things considered. Between Autumn’s superb twirling and balance, and Brennan’s masterfully fluid movements with his shoulders and waist, it’s not hard to see why these two dominated the competition.
It’s also worth mentioning that the Shag is a very back-and-forth kind of dance.
You’re going to be worrying about not colliding into each other as much as you are watching your footwork and pace.
I don’t think you could try half the things Brennan and Autumn do here without giving your volunteer partner an unintentional nudge or push.
And just how well did they do?
Seeing that they won, I’d say they did pretty good. The moment they started showing off that masterful rhythm in their feet, and the flawless twirls and shimmies, there was hardly any doubt.
We all know someone who appreciates a good dancer. Autumn and Brennan’s performance has to be seen to be appreciated, so give it a good watch below.
