Downsizing your life can be extremely satisfying.
And for one couple, the decision to downsize their life and move into a tiny home was one of the best decisions that they could have made.
Tamara and Sean’s transition into tiny house living didn’t take place overnight–it was actually about a three-year process.
But now that they are settled and have been living in their home for the past year, they couldn’t be more satisfied with their situation.
The first thing that you notice about Sean and Tamara’s home is that what it lacks in size, it certainly doesn’t lack in character.
Its multi-colored wood paneling and unique wavy lines give this house a charming quirkiness that draws you right in.
But before you enter the home through the front door, you pass over a charming little porch first.
It’s big enough to sit on and enjoy but it also folds up and latches into place should the homeowners need to pack the place up and tow it to a new location.
Once inside, you find yourself in the living/kitchen space.
And the way in which the couple designed and decorated it makes you feel right at home.
Sean and Tamara wanted to reuse as many materials as they could when building this time home, so when it was time to put up curtains, they decided to get creative.
Rather than just buy a new set of curtains from the store, Tamara was able to get a bunch of coffee sacks from their favorite coffeeshop for free and turn them into awesome window curtinas.
The next feature of the house that catches your eye is the black walnut counter top.
The homeowners kept the natural curves of the wood, allowing it to flow and turn it what ever direction nature had intended it to.
It makes for a very unique yet highly functional piece.
Past the kitchen is the bathroom where Tamara and Sean were able to make the most out of their tiny space.
They were able to fit a sink, composting toilet, and even a horse trough tub and shower that is large enough to bathe in.
Above the kitchen/bathroom area is the bedroom, but you have to access the stairs from back in the living room.
When you walk back towards that side of the house, you realize that this couple made sure not to waste any space.
And at only twenty-two feet long by eight and a half feet wide, wasting space really wasn’t an option for them.
As you make your way up the stairs, you notice that each step doubles as storage space and that there is even a guest loft above the front door that a visitor could use.
Once in the bedroom, you can’t help but feel nice and cozy.
A large bed takes up the floor space and at the foot of the bed is a good-sized closet.
On the bedroom ceiling is maybe the best feature of the entire tiny home–a skylight that opens up to the roof.
Sean and Tamara use this window to help cool down the room at night as well as a hatch to get out onto the roof.
They enjoy spending time up there, drinkning beers and having conversation.
