They aren’t the only ones to find something strange in the walls.

Anyone who has ever remodeled a room in their home knows how stressful it can be. Everything that can go wrong will go wrong, and there are usually a lot of little surprises that pop up along the way.

One couple thought they were avoiding these surprises by hiring a contractor to handle their bathroom remodel. Then, he texted them an odd photo.

The contractor had torn through a bathroom wall and found photos and messages.

The previous homeowners left them. It turns out, they had remodeled the bathroom, too. One message said:

“If you’re reading this, that means you’re remodeling the bathroom again. What’s wrong with the way we did it?”

They also included a photo of themselves and a photo of their pet bunny.

The bunny also left a message. The couple couldn’t believe what they were seeing. At first, they thought it was a joke. Alex Monney explained:

“We thought it was hilarious! Totally unexpected so it gave us a good laugh throughout the day.”

While Alex still plans to continue the remodel, he wants the previous owners to know that he got their message. If he could contact them, he would tell them:

“Your bathroom and home is lovely. It has given us a lot of beautiful memories and we can’t wait to raise our little baby girl here. Sorry, we’re changing the bathroom, but the shower is too small for me to fit in (I’m 6′ and my wife is 5′). Thank you for the amazing surprise!”

The couple shared the photos and messages on social media; it was shared thousands of times, and the story on Reddit received more than 80,000 votes.

It also inspired other people to share their stories about the strange things they found in their own homes.

TJ Harris shared his story and a photo. He posted:

“My wife and I bought our first home last summer. Had to cut a hole in the bathroom wall to install a vent. Here’s what we found behind behind that wall.”

Mars Garret posted:

“My parents had their house custom built in the late 1970s. Dad routinely stopped by and gave the builders a six pack of beer at the end of the day on Fridays. He found this in the wall when renovating the master bathroom shower in 2013”

Another Twitter user, Matt Singley, explained how he left something behind for the future residents of his home.

He posted:

“When I remodeled a room on a house years ago, I left a 6 pack of Guinness and a note in the wall. No idea if anybody has found it yet.”

The Monney couple also admits that they are leaving behind something when they complete the remodel of their bathroom. Alex said:

“The funny thing is the renovation was supposed to be quick. We’re expecting our first baby in four weeks, so we need to get moving on our message pretty soon.”

Hopefully, the couple can get their remodel completed before the baby comes.

If they ever decide to do another room, they better check to see what kind of secret messages or treasures are left behind. It’s also fun to wonder what kind of message they plan to leave themselves.

At least the couple knows that they aren’t along. They can read the many social media posts that prove other people have found things that are just as strange in their own homes. Maybe this can be a new trend.

Everyone can start leaving little things in their homes for others to find.

How exciting would it be to find a little time capsule when you are in the middle of a remodel? It sure might make things a little easier.

One thing is for sure, the Monneys will never forget this project. Every time they go into their bathroom, they will think about the family that was there before them. That’s a little weird!
