Weddings are one of the most special occasions we experience in our lives.

The decision to build a life with someone else who we love is a serious decision. When the choice is finally made, that’s when the real work begins. Anyone out there who is married knows just how much work goes into getting everyone’s closest family and friends together in one room. The venue has to be just right and all the procedures have to be perfect.

Still, not everyone takes the most orthodox approach to their marriage.

Would you ever consider getting married in a KFC?

Because that’s exactly what one couple did in Worcester in the United Kingdom. The marriage between Cherish and Edward Simms was just like any other, for the most part. The two said their vows at City Hall in front of more than 40 guests. Once the deed was done, the wedding party headed over to KFC for the rest of the party.

The staff there did the best job waiting on the guests—and everyone was given chicken, fries and plenty of sides.

Still, even the staff at KFC were not expecting to host a wedding.

According to an article in Worcester News, the request took them a little bit off-guard. According to Cherish, the staff questioned the choice. “They were like: ‘Oh, you want to do what? They just kept asking me: ‘Are you sure?” she said. Still, the family followed through with their plans and the entire was a little bit tongue-in-cheek anyway:

“We didn’t want a boring reception where we would have to organize everything ourselves so we thought why not see if it was possible . . . It was a great value for money and we wanted to spend more money on our honeymoon instead.”

All told, the Simms only ended up paying less than £100 for everything at the reception!

Although it’s easy to laugh at this unusual wedding choice, the Simms and their guests all had a good time at a very affordable price. While their choice was unusual, the wedding went off without a hitch and the couple seems as happy as ever. “I hope people do weddings for themselves and not to show off to other people,” Cherish said. “The most important thing is to have a bit of fun on your wedding day, and not be uncomfortable and scurrying around for months and months to get everything done.” Sounds good to us.

Congratulations to the happy couple!
