Francis and Rosemary Kontz will be celebrating their 68th wedding anniversary in September, a feat they attribute to the fact that they have always worn coordinating clothes since they started dating in high school. “My mother got us matching shirts when we were in high school- well, I picked them out and we’ve been matching ever since.” Rosemary said on how their habit got started.

The California couple apparently met in middle school, but didn’t start dating until later in high school. “I thought she was the cutest little thing,” said Francis about his lovely wife, “By the time we were seniors, we started going together.” The couple was married shortly after their high school years and have been together happily ever since. Francis has never minded the arrangement, having his wife pick out his wardrobe for the past 68 years, “She just lays it out for me, and I don’t have to worry about a thing!” he said in an interview. A true testament to the phrase ‘Happy wife, happy life’.

On top of the matching outfits, a shared faith is what Francis and Rosemary say has kept them together for so long. The couple has served together in ministry for almost as long as they have been together. “Jesus first, others second, you last- that’s the way you spell JOY.” is something that Francis lives by, and Rosemary is in full agreement.” Jesus and others and you- what a wonderful way to spell joy!” she said.

In their spare time you can find the couple volunteering and performing at their local hospital, church, and of course around the house. They call themselves the “The Singing Chaplains (and of course have matching jackets to prove it). On top of those hobbies they also teach ‘God’s Children”, a group of special needs children in their extra time, giving all they have back to their community.
