Couple gets letter from stranger telling them about “secret rooms” in their 130-year-old home
Naturally, they decided to explore.

You usually get what you see when you purchase a home.

There may be creaky boards and rats hiding somewhere, but those are small things that anyone could miss.

It’s a whole different story if, for instance, your home has several extra rooms you never knew about.

It sounds ridiculous, but that’s what happened to this couple on TikTok.

Courtney and Matt are (in their own words) a millennial couple who recently bought a home that packed more than they expected.

The pair became the new owners of a 130-year-old Victorian home.

A home this old is sure to have some secrets, but the secrets here were quite a lot bigger.

Sometime after moving in, Courtney received a very curious letter.

Courtney read the letter from someone who claimed to be descended from the family it used to belong to.

Based on what transpired afterward, it seems like they were telling the truth.

The letter described multiple secret rooms and spaces that Courtney and Matt didn’t know about.

“I am the last surviving member of the Madison family who once owned the house and grew up in it. I would like to pass on a brief history of the family and tell you about the secret rooms.”

The mention of “secret rooms” made Courtney’s face light up as she read it out loud to Matt.

Many old homes had secret bunkers, rooms, or compartments for safety or security reasons.

It’s since fallen out of favor, which makes finding a surviving home with those things so cool.

The first of such rooms were supposedly a compartment downstairs, right behind the fireplace.

They went to see the first secret, and it was less of a “room” and more of a compartment.

It was a panel that slid up vertically to reveal a stash of liquor older than anyone could guess.

Next was the bathroom, which Courtney says is one of the scariest rooms in the house.

As if a 130-year-old Victorian home with secret rooms wasn’t fitting for a scary movie already!

The bathroom was not as pretty as the other two rooms. The paint was chipping off, and various panels and boards weren’t in their right place.

A photo hung in the room showing what the bathroom used to look like.

Needless to say, some restoration was in order.

But we’re not here to talk about how bad the bathroom currently looks.

We want to see the secrets!

That secret here turned out to be an old storage area.

Hardly large enough to be a room, except maybe for a small child.

The old wooden planks were removed to reveal a curious space inside that was now occupied by generators and other machinery.

There was still one more secret room.

The letter says it was in the basement behind a specific wall.

Courtney went there as per the instructions and squealed when she saw what was clearly a patched-up wall.

According to the letter, a dead space could be found behind the retaining wall to the left.

The wall was boarded up, but she could see through little openings that there was indeed a space there.

She couldn’t look any further right now, though.

Several inches of brick and concrete prevented that.

Plus, it didn’t look like there was anything of value or interest back there.

But the secrets and history mattered a lot more than whatever she might’ve found there.

It’s even cooler that she decided to share it with us all!

Discoveries like that are best shared, after all.
