This is a country with a culture and history so ancient, intricate, and rich and yet has emerged as one of the world’s most economically and technologically advanced societies. They put emphasis on education and tradition and yet from the legendary Katana to the global force that is Toyota, they show no signs of stopping.
When you look at the Samurai, the temples, and the food, there is no mistaking this nation, despite being smaller than most, has influenced so much in every corner of the globe.
Japan is one of those must travel to places on anyone’s list.
There are a number of things to see and do and the Japanese people are some of the world’s coolest folk. The best part is that these people, considering the history and tradition they have, are always open to trying new things. New experiences. Would you even think of Japan and associate them with line dancing and country music?
Line dancing and country music come from America and has found its way to the east.
We’re not kidding. Check them out. Dressed to look the part with the hats, button down shirts, jeans, and boots, these are Japanese men and women on stage and they’re all set to dance to “Bomshel stomp” by Bomshel.
Line dancing is exactly what its name suggests.
Choreographed steps that have people in lines and rows without making contact with each other and doing the same steps while changing directions.
The steps are simple and a partner is not required so it’s great for singles and those shy or new to dancing. Easy to learn and fun to do with strangers, it is the perfect dance for those wanting to dance the night away without drawing too much attention to themselves.
Leave the Kimono at home and buckle up.
There is a Western looking man to the left and… could he be the instigator? It’s always great to learn about the culture of other nations and when given the chance, share some of that knowledge. And of course dancing and music are universal languages.
A line dance has a certain number of counts. That makes it easier to follow especially as it is usually done with a group. There are catchy names too. The Texas Two-Step, the Tush Push, West Coast Shuffle, the Redneck Girl, Boot Scootin’ Boogie and many others. Catchy.
Western music is actually quite popular in Japan.
Jazz, rock, and blues are enjoyed by the generations that came after the second world war. There are Japanese songs played with western musical instruments and even the karaoke lifestyle is part of the nightly entertainment across the nation.
The Japanese are really aware of powerful influences from outside and have in turn responded with great curiosity. They have selected and absorbed foreign cultural values and traditions and then adapting them with their own indigenous patterns.
Countless influences gave birth to modern day Japan.
Burgers and sushi aside, they really do look like they’re having fun.
It clearly shows too. Look at these men and women go! For these line dancing ladies and gentlemen, they will be influencing the next generation and in turn will give birth to new ideas and interests for this great nation.
Watch them step from east to west in the fun video below.
