The internet is full of videos featuring emotional reunions between parents and their children. Surely you’ve watched a few, but probably not like the one below.
Kenneth Stahl is a military man, having served as a private in the national guard in countries like Syria, Iraq, and Kuwait.
What Kenneth’s parents didn’t know was that he had been accepted into Fairmont State University, and was on his way home early from an 11-month deployment to give them the surprise of their lives.
The moment was captured on video by a friend of Kenneth.
In the cop car ahead, Kenneth is hiding, waiting for the right moment to reveal himself to his mom and dad.
The cop car signals for Kenneth’s parents, in the car in front, to pull over, and both cars pull onto a grassy verge.
By this point, Kenneth’s parents are probably feeling a little nervous, as anyone would be after getting pulled over by the cops!
A couple of cops get out of their car and approach Nancy and Richard Stahl. Nancy had thought that they must have been pulled over for a speeding offense, but police had apparently told them that their car had been linked to a drugs transaction, and they needed to get out.
While the conversation between the police and Kenneth’s parents is taking place, a door opens in the police car and another man steps out. He walks around to the back of the car, waiting for the right moment.
Finally, Nancy and Richard approach the police car, and the real reason for their cop stop is revealed.
The back door of the police car opens, and Richard stares speechlessly at his son, kitted out in his full army uniform, standing right in front of him.
Nancy then begins to scream in excitement, hurrying over to Kenneth and pulling him into a big hug.
It’s an emotional scene – we’d imagine that for this, his parents can forgive Kenneth for tricking them into thinking they were in trouble with the law!
While Richard steps back to wipe his glasses, Nancy is so ecstatic that she can’t help going in for another hug with her son. Any parent knows that there’s no more special moment than holding your child in your arms, no matter how old they are.
The video, which was shared by Happily on YouTube, has more than 10 million views. On Facebook, it has more than 184K reactions and thousands of comments. One person wrote:
“What a beautiful thing to do. I’m a blubbering mess can’t stop crying. Thank you Officers for helping. Great Job.”
Someone else agreed, commenting:
“Omg I love watching these reunions. I like the different things person come up with. This was a good one. Thank you for your service”
A few people commented on the prank that Kenneth had played on his parents, and while some called it an ingenious idea, others thought it was a little harsh.
Ask yourself, if it were you, would you be able to forgive the whole “getting pulled over by the cops” part? Fortunately, there was a very sweet ending though!
