Everyone seems to hate each other at the moment.
These days, it’s hard not to just disconnect and take a break from life. In a world rife with conflict and controversy, just remember there’s still some love out there. The Lord of the Rings fans can relate.
Frodo: “What are we holding on to, Sam?”
Samwise the Brave: “That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo.”
Meet Delia Pesina and Reenshia McIntyre of the Dallas Police Department.
They’re not exactly saving Middle Earth from the grips of pure evil, but like Frodo and Sam, they’re trying to make a positive impact in the world.
It all started with a 2-year-old’s invitation.
Upon finishing up a call in a Dallas apartment complex, the duo was invited inside by a child.
They began to connect on a personal level, soon meeting her mother.
But the closer the officers looked, the harsher the reality became.
Turns out, the 2-year-old has five siblings. Unfortunately, their current living conditions didn’t seem optimal for a family of that size.
The children’s mother explained that she had just escaped an abusive relationship. She and her children had been living in the apartment for months, but she still hasn’t been able to furnish the place.
The duo even noticed they were washing and reusing styrofoam plates.
After a bittersweet exchange, the work schedule forced them back on the job.
But neither of them were satisfied.
They both knew what was about to happen.
“So we’re coming back aren’t we?”
They set out on a mission, collecting donations from fellow officers.
Some officers even offered their labor and time!
After generating enough money, they began collecting essentials to gift the mother and her children. We’re not talking a few bucks here and there.
The contributions were massive.
The force brought over more than just a few gifts…
Mom and her six children were absolutely stunned, deeply appreciative of everything.
“We told the children, ‘This is where you’re going to be sleeping.’ The excitement on their face was so heartfelt we had to fight back tears.”
Delia and Reenshia have love in their hearts. Unlike some, they attempt to use their badges and platforms for the better.
These cops have a different mentality.
“For me, it’s part of my job description. I think it’s part of my heart.”
Empathy and poetry.
One thing’s certain – this style of policing’s better than the tragic events that have occupied the news in recent months.
How many cops do this?
Mom shares her experience, touched by the warm gesture.
“I wish I could do more than say thank you to everyone that contributed to me and my children. We love ya’ll and really love the things you gave us. We are very much appreciative and grateful for you guys helping us.”
Beneath the badge and uniform, the police are simultaneously members of their local communities.
We should all be working for a better life for everyone.
I wish more cops (and people) acted like Reneeshia and Delia. They saw something wrong and sought to fix it, using their influence and support to make a difference.
“For me it’s part of my job description. It’s part of my heart.”
Despite the current hostility in the world, there’s still so much good.
These two went out of their way to help a family in need, and that should absolutely be commended, especially given the circumstances.
