Police officers across the globe work to keep their communities safe. Although this may be their duty, many of them even go up and beyond to help citizens in need – simply because they have really big hearts!

Two cops were patrolling Cascade View Park in Washington when they noticed something that just wasn’t right…

While it’s common to see kids running around at a park, there was one child, in particular, that caught the officers’ eye. That’s because he wasn’t wearing any shoes.

The Tukwila officers noticed the boy had on filthy, torn socks, and that there was a big cut on his foot.

It was obvious that the child needed some assistance, so they jumped in to help. They began by pulling out their first-aid kit and caring for his wound.

Naturally, the officers then asked the boy “where his shoes were.” Turns out, he’d outgrown his only ones. He sadly replied that “the pair he had was too small for his feet to fit in.”

Like they say, not all heroes wear capes.

In a Facebook post that’s gone viral, the Tukwila Police Department explained this story – and also what the officers did to help the shoeless boy.

They cutely refer to the cops as “Sergeant Modest” and “Officer Bashful,” but then write, “names have been changed to protect their bashfulness.”

After learning that the child didn’t have shoes to wear, Sergeant Modest and Officer Bashful jumped into action.

“The sergeant ran out and grabbed a pair of shoes for him while the officer kept him and his friends company. He came back with not only a pair of shoes, but also with a bunch of popsicles because what isn’t better than a cold popsicle on a hot summer day?! The officer helped to tie his new friend’s shoes and they all enjoyed a popsicle together before parting ways”

It’s a small, heartfelt act of kindness that made a big difference to the child.

Many might wonder why the boy didn’t have shoes that fit in the first place. Tukwila Police Department’s spokesperson, Victor Masters, told Yahoo:

“There was no abuse or neglect suspected on the part of his parents, and he did not voice any concerns regarding his parents or his home life. It was mainly a case of a child that did not have basic everyday necessities that many of us take for granted.”

Since the department shared the sweet story on Facebook, their post has gathered thousands of “likes.” Many people also left warm comments praising the officers’ good deed – not to mention, the story made headlines across the nation too.

One person commented:

“A great example of the heart behind the badge! Well done sir!”

Sooo…Sergeant Modest and Officer Bashful (names have been changed to protect their bashfulness) were patrolling on foot…

The Tukwila Police Department was extremely grateful for the “outpouring of support” they received after posting the story.

On Facebook, they wrote:

“What our officers did is no different than what officers do daily all over the country. It is representative of the small acts of kindness that occur daily between police officers and members of the communities that they serve nationwide.”

They continue:

“A small gesture such as this one or the countless other gestures of kindness that officers do daily goes a long way towards building rapport and trust with every member of the community regardless of their socioeconomic status. We are a part of the community that we serve and are proud to have such amazing men and women in our ranks that truly care so much about those that they serve.”

Wow. Just wow. We don’t even know where to begin. Thank you to everyone who read our post and shared it. Also, thank you…
