For 29 years, Deputy Tony Scherb of the El Paso County police force in Colorado Springs, CO, served his community with zeal, vigor an seriousness that seemed to go beyond the call of duty. He was known around town for being straightlaced and no-nonsense, but that didn’t stop residents from loving him. He did his job and he did it well, which meant they were safe under his care.
Deputy Scherb loved every minute of his job, something that not many people can claim, but on his last day on the job, he wasn’t immune to the feeling that comes with retirement: pure and unadulterated joy, like a kid who is about to go on summer vacation. His feelings show as he takes a victory lap in the precinct’s elevator.
As soon as the doors to the elevator is closed and he’s alone, Deputy Scherb starts dancing. And not like the jumping up in the air and dancing out of excitement type dancing, like really dancing…whip, nae nae, stanky leg and do the Superman. It. Is. Priceless.
Scherb is not deterred from his antics just because other officers join the scene. No, he continues dancing and eventually, the join right on in. The only person they stop for is his soon-to-be-former supervisor (and current supervisor of the other officers). By the end, two other officers are dancing along with Scherb to Silento’s hit, all the way to the first floor.
Though this video is clearly staged, it is hilarious as all heck, and it is sure to put a smile on your face. After all, it’s not every day that you see officers of the law let loose and have fun for once. For people who know Scherb, it was especially heartwarming to see their normally straightfaced deputy live a little.
