A couple by the names of Mary and Kapelle Wyatt have recently been in a bit of a pickle.
At 70-years-old, the two reside in Kansas City, Missouri on a fixed income. While a house they own has not been occupied in the last few years, they still manage to pay taxes on it and keep the property nicely tamed.
However, despite their best efforts to keep it clean and maintained, a contractor apparently came and stripped the shingles from its roof, completely exposing the home’s interior to the elements. This happened this past summer, in July 2019.
The worst — and most confusing — part of this story is that this crew did all of this work on the wrong house. The Wyatts never even hired a contractor. The contractor was actually supposed to be doing work on one block down from their home. So close, yet so far.
It was far too late by the time the contractor had realized what he had done — it was certainly not a small mistake to be made. At this point in the process, the rain had softened the wood in the house, making it absolutely impossible to cover back up.
Unfortunately, it gets even worse for poor Mary at this point, who was told that the roof would be repaired. Months had gone by after the incident and still no sign of a rebuilt roof. Instead of wood, all they got was frustration and disappointment. No one wanted to take the blame on making the mistake which is unfortunate for the Wyatts, seeing as they had nothing to do with this and did absolutely nothing to deserve it.
We can assure you the story does eventually have a happy ending, though. When the company who tore down the roof wouldn’t step up, others decided to step in. They heard the story and, with no strings attached, wanted to help restore the couple’s roof.
Now, Mary is finally excited and relieved. “I think it’s very nice that people will go out of their way and do that,” she told Fox4 News Kansas City.
“It’s unfortunate the couple had to go through what they had to go through,” Shannon Webb, the Sales Manager at Blue Rain Roofing said. The company offered to put a new roof on their home for free while SPEC Building Materials Corporation donated the supplies.
Exhibiting just how detail-oriented they are, the company is giving them a brand-new roof. The job was eventually finished, as promised.
“If we don’t have each other, who do we have?” Webb continued.
Now that her home is no longer exposed to the elements, Mary shared that she is finally relieved and happy to have her roof back — a shiny, brand-new roof, too! “I’m very excited, thankful. You guys get things done,” she went on to say.
While it is no fun to deal with the repercussions of bad people, it is reassuring to see that there are still good ones out there who are looking to help others in times of need.
