There are some pretty common misconceptions about statements we take as fact these days. From old wives-tales to things we just take for granted, we debunk eight facts that we always thought were true!

1. Growing your hair longer isn’t as easy as it seems…

People think that cutting hair will somehow get it to grow longer, faster. Not true according to Viviscal’s Hair Experts. Hair growth is not affected at all by the ends, only by at the scalp.

2. George Washington did not die of a cold, and you probably won’t either

George Washington did catch a cold, and that did lead to a catalyst for his death. Unfortunately, that’s only half the story. When he caught that cold, his doctor removed over half the blood in his system, and also exposed him to some pretty nasty toxins. Those were the catalysts that lead to his demise. 3. Honey isn’t the only thing bears are into

Bears do like honey, that’s true. But they’re often looking for bee larvae, that are filled with protein that’s great for bears.

4. The 15-second memory myth

Goldfish can actually do tricks if you teach them, rendering the 15-second myth completely false. Check out these goldfish doing some really cool tricks here!

5. Spiders while sleeping

This one had us spooked back in the day, but there’s actually zero statistical truth about eating spider in your sleep. In fact, it was a rumor specifically made to test plagiarism from other writers.

6. Cracking your knuckles

Some people crack their knuckles, and others are terrified of arthritis and believe that cracking knuckles actually causes arthritis. There’s absolutely no science behind this, so pop them as you please. That won’t stop others from still thinking it’s gross though.

7. Peeing the pool

This one might be a little bit of an easy one to debunk if you’re the type that’s peed in the pool before, but there’s no chemical in the water that reacts and causes pee to turn into another color in the pool. Still doesn’t mean you should pee in there though!

8. Carrot Vision

The old myth stated that we needed to eat carrots to keep our eyes working well. While the root definitely does have great qualities and do help with some eye health, it doesn’t help with eye sight.
