Kate and Jon Gosselin were once a couple who loved each other unconditionally and shared with the world their life with their eight kids.
The Gosselin family, who became widely known thanks to their appearance on the reality show Jon & Kate Plus 8, has been having a hard time over the last decade and more.
Ever since Jon and Kate filed for divorce in 2009, they have been involved in many different disputes that mostly have to do with their children.
One of the couple’s children, Collin, who is 18 today, recently talked about his relationship with his mother and siblings in an interview with Entertainment Tonight and Kevin Frazier.
The teenager, who has been living with his father and twin sister Hannah for about four years, explained how he feels about his relationship with his mom.
He also opened up about being twice institutionalized.

It seems that his mother has shared in public that Collin has “special needs” and this is what led to him being institutionalized twice.
Kate once said that she had not been explained what his special needs were exactly and this made her struggle. In fact, Collin’s condition was believed to have impacted not only him or his mom, but also the family as a whole.

According to the boy, his mother had her own agenda, but what has remained with him from this whole story is the trauma.
Collin and his mom didn’t even have much of a relationship before he went to the live-in learning facility to address his “behavioral issues”, according to the teen himself.

But after that experience, their bond was just broken. Still, he hopes to this day that if they ever meet again, she will realize he is not the person she believes he is.
During the interview, two letters from Collin to his dad were shown, in which the young boy was begging his father to take him home with him because he was suffering in the institution.
Finally, Jon was able to take his son out of there and managed to win sole physical and legal custody of his son, as well as his daughter Hannah.
Since then, the three of them have been living together and Collin seems to be calmer than ever thanks to his father’s presence and support, and to his sister whom “he loves to death”.

As Collin also explained, he believes that his family was torn apart because their life was shared with millions of people on TV.
“I want to believe it was because of TV and what being in the public eye does to a family. I think it tore us apart,”he said. “It gave us less time to actually be together as a family [and] more time to be in the public eye.”

As for his siblings, he admits he hasn’t talked to them in “five or six years” and that he’d love to have a relationship with them.
